We live in a world and in an era that is rapidly changing. Take a look at what we have now and compare them to what we had a decade ago, you will agree with me that a lot of notable changes have occurred. Technology is evolving, industries are being transformed, and this has also made new skills to be valuable as the days go by. You will be surprised that what was relevant yesterday may not even be enough tomorrow. This is why maintaining relevance in this era is not optional, but it is a vital necessity. No matter where you are; maybe as a student, business person, entrepreneur, leader, etc, you have to remain useful, valuable, and adaptable. These will be part of what will determine your opportunities and long-term success. Here, we shall be looking at ways to stay relevant in this era.

The first way remain relevant is through continuous learning. Learning is a very vital way to maintain relevance. The world is constantly changing and evolving. In the same way, knowledge also becomes outdated and obsolete quickly. It is only the people who are committed to continuous learning that will stay ahead of change. Learning can come in various ways, from books, from online courses, from seminars, practical experiences, personal research, from mentors, etc. One of the best habits you have to form is the habit of learning and developing new skills and expanding your knowledge. The moment a person thinks that they have learnt enough is the point they begin to fail.
The second way to stay relevant in this era is related to the first one; develop new skills and update on your previous ones. Years back, when offices and businesses used the manual typewriter as their document processing device, a lot of people learnt how to operate it. But when the world evolved in technology and then computer systems went mainstream, they had to go and learn how to operate the computer. This is because if they did not acquire the new skill, they would become obsolete with their old skill. The more useful your skills are in this era, the more relevant you will be. When you invest in skill development, your opportunities and your adaptability will increase.
The third way to stay relevant that we will look at here is to welcome change and adaptability. You cannot keep holding on to the past when it has obviously passed, and hope to remain relevant. Just like the case of the manual typewriter that I cited earlier. Imagine someone refusing to change and embrace the computer technology, what do you think would have happened to them by now? Change will always come, and you cannot stop it. New technologies, methods, and systems will continue to change. Adaptable people remain open-minded and are willing to adjust. Instead of trying to resist change, they learn to take advantage of it and profit from it. That is, they do not see change as an enemy, but as an ally.

The fourth way to stay relevant is to build and maintain strong relationships and network. You have to understand that you cannot succeed and achieve greatness alone or in isolation. You definitely need people. People provide opportunities, learning, support, experience, and very importantly, access to information. The people who make good and meaningful relationships are often exposed to opportunities that they never knew existed. There are things that you have gained that, if not for good relationships, you may not have gained them. Know that networking is not about using people, but about building a genuine relationship that is based on mutual respect, trust, and value.
The last way to maintain relevance in this era is to maintain good character. Your skills are important, your qualifications are needed, your knowledge is also very necessary. At least they can open doors for you, but there is something else that can sustain the door and keep it open, and that is character. A good character includes honesty, discipline, integrity, and accountability. All these are part of what will help you to maintain relevance in this era. So you see, maintaining relevance is a very personal and intentional effort. So do not become too comfortable with where you are now, always try to become better than you are.
