You may have a work that sits in your corner for days or even weeks. Each time you want to go ahead to undertake it, you will find an excuse not to do it, or you may keep telling yourself that you will do it later. You may be doing other things just to remind yourself that you are too busy to attend to that task. You may think that you are busy but deep down, you know that you are simply running away from the work. But what if I tell you that the real transformation that you are looking for is actually in the work that you have been avoiding? That might even be the secret behind the success you are looking for.

Have you ever taken a moment to think about the things that you delay the most? It might be a difficult report you are to write, an uncomfortable discussion you are to have with a friend, starting a fitness routine, starting a business. You may avoid these things because they may make you feel uncomfortable, or they may require deep focus, or they may simply look too difficult, or maybe because of the fear of making mistakes. You might even see yourself focusing more on easy and unimportant things because they may make you feel like you have achieved something significant. But what you have to understand is that keeping your focus majorly on unimportant things will not change your life. What will change your life is when you do the seemingly difficult things and take the risk you are required to.

If you constantly push the things that you are supposed to do today for tomorrow, you may think that you are saving yourself from stress but you are already creating more stress for yourself. Having an unfinished task can act like a distraction in your brain. It can drain your energy and may even prevent you from concentrating. Even if you want to relax, there will still be a small voice inside your head trying to remind you that you have an unfinished task. This is part of the reasons you should not just abandon a task halfway. Stop running away from difficult tasks, you have to learn to face the tasks. The tasks you avoid could be what may change your life in ways you may not expect.

When you face the difficult task, you will be surprised that it is not even as bad as you think. It might just be that your mind is just programmed to make mountain out of little hills. Imagine spending the whole day worrying about something that may just take you about 30mins to do. Which means that the fear and the worries of thinking about the work is actually bigger than doing the work itself. More so, when you finish a task, it will give you a burst of energy, and even encourage you to do more. It also gives you a higher confidence that, at least, you have achieved something and you can do it again. You will agree with me that when you clear off a burden from your shoulders, you will feel lighter, better, happier, and unstoppable. In fact, the positive energy will flow into the rest of your activities for the day. You will automatically become the boss of your own schedule.

In order to stop avoiding works and start doing them, there is something that you need to observe to do. Which is, you have to break the hold of perfectionism. You have to understand that you do not need a perfect plan, you do not need a perfect mood, and you do not even need a perfect environment to start. What you need is just one step. For example, if you have been avoiding reading a book, you can just promise yourself to read just 2 pages. If you have been avoiding having a difficult conversation, you can start with a simple text. Once you have gone pass the initial hurdle of starting, the other processes will become easier, and you will build momentum along the way. It is the action that you put in place that will create the motivation and the momentum to keep you going.
