Should Every Student Learn A Skill?

I can tell you that many parents are forcing their children to go for one practical skill or the other while even still schooling now because of how things are and what the Era is becoming. Having a practical skill alongside schooling is what I see as a big opportunity in this present time when compared in the years that have passed when “white collar job is the ultimate”.

Formally, parents will plan for their children to finish up secondary school 🏫, and then enroll them into either Fashion Designing , Hair Stylings called Hair Stylist, Baking line called Confectionery, including Catering Services. Some will allow their boys to go for tailoring, Hair Barbing, Generator Repairing, and so many others while waiting for JAMB for Admission into the University.

Its very sad that many of us during our growing up and into the youth did not have the opportunity to learn a skill then , that might have helped us as adults now, although our parents never knew that change will force many things not to be as it use to. I mean , how would they have known that their era will be better than ours in times of their belief in farming and trading.

But were are learning it the hard way now. We are trying to situate ourselves with various kinds of practical skill now after acquiring knowledge with grades from the university, while also situating our children as they plan for university days because of how the world 🌎 is today. Meaning that, despite going to school 🏫, this era is not just for certificates . You need to have something more to offer. And not just something more, but something you love with passion that will make you to shine while doing it.

As a graduate 👩‍🎓who worked white collar jobs for many years , especially in the area of “Customer Relations”, I later went into Apartment Services called Realtors , after a six months course in building management. And with the experience of clientele relations, I gradually started moving into interior decor which also relates to apartment services.

And with time, change becoming the only thing constant, and since learning is also a continuous process, I joined a sister of mine who is into confectionery, catering and events services and started learning how to bake. And I tell you that its one experience I love ❤️. Although , I will say its a late endeavor , but who says it is if that is how life is. An unknown journey only God decides for us. All we need is embrace life the way they come.

My daughter before leaving for the university learned how to braid and style all kinds of hair and alongside make-ups. She can practically braid her hair by herself in school, saving herself some cost 💲. Then with her services to others in school, she takes care of some of her bills 💵. So this is one big opportunity she has gained by learning this skill. And going to school might just mean you want to acquire the grade and certificate not because you will want to stay all your life working white collar job.

In all, times are changing things. We need to keep planing for the future from the things we do today to avoid some uncertainties.
