In order to build a good relationship that will last, then it is important to know that responsibility and commitment are required. Of course, no good thing comes at absolutely zero cost, there are always prices to pay. More so, your relationship is basically a function of how you have made it to be through your actions. Any good relationship you see that is working is principally made to work by the parties involved. This is why I believe that many of the good things of life are worked for. That is, they are earned after taking the required responsibilities, not gifted. We have looked at the third part of the foundation of relationship and we will take the final part here.

The first foundation to consider here is adaptability. The truth is that both of you are from entirely different backgrounds and possess dissimilar personalities, so you do not expect both of you to act the same way. Your preferences will also be different and many other things, but to build a good relationship, then you must learn to adapt. As life evolves and as time goes by, also be willing to evolve with it. That is, be able to adapt to the changes that come from your partner and from life itself. There are things about the person you love that you cannot change even if you try, but you can train yourself to adapt to it.
One of my friends who recently got married said that when he was single, he normally preferred sleeping with lights off and that had been his way of life since he was young. However, when he got married, he wife sleeps with light on. Well, in order for peace to reign and for the relationship to work, he had to learn to sleep with the lights on. He had to adapt to changes so as to make his marriage work. In life, one of the proves of our existence as humans is the ability to adapt to changes. Changes will definitely come even from the people you love, so your only choice may just be to adapt to it and then condition yourself to respond positively to it instead of reacting negatively to it.
The second foundation, which also holds importance, is patience. You need to understand that anything that has to do with growth will definitely take time. Even to grow in love also takes time, so you need to be patient with your partner and help them to grow. You need to give them time to grow up to your requirements. At first, you may not love them as much as is required and of course, they will also present with some flaws, but with time, they can grow even beyond your expectations. While also having patience with your partner to work on themself, you should also work on yourself to grow alongside them, so as to be able to match their own growth.
I once heard the teachings of one of my mentors about when he got married newly many years ago. In fact, it was nothing like he expected and he met so many flaws in the marriage, while his wife also complained about so many from him. But their marriage Councillor then advised them on certain "dos and dont's" which helped them on their journey. They learnt patience and applied it to their marriage and they were able to build their desired marriage. After many years of being married, they discovered that what they had issues with at the initial stage were no longer an issue today, simply because they grew in patience.

The last foundation here is love. This is a very fundamental foundation on which anything that relates to relationship should be built on. Of course how will you even think of being with someone who you do not have love for? Without love, everything will seem like a burden and even their strengths will be viewed as weakness, while they become offensive. This is why love is a very paramount thing in relationships. It is true that your partner is not perfect, and their flaws are without question, but it should not stop you from loving them nonetheless.
Even when they have done something wrong, your correction should be based on love. By loving your partner, you will understand that the relationship is not centered around only you. When you have love in your heart, you will not want to do to them what they will not like, and you will make them your priority. Remember that love is not all about what to gain from them but what to also give to them.
