English version

I decided to take another walk through Guaqueri Park, the city’s most important green space, which is why it’s the perfect refuge to relax for a while and leave behind the worries that often disturb one’s peace of mind. The sound of birds and people enjoying nature usually makes for good company.

This time, the park seemed crowded; early in the morning, the staff who work here gathered at the entrance—about 60 people—and off to the side, I saw a large group of children on the basketball court. I was surprised to see them so active at this hour, exercising; sports are definitely a great way to put idleness aside.

Guaqueri Park has something for everyone; its size allows for harmonious coexistence among people engaged in various activities. I saw people jogging, others reading books, some walking their pets, children playing in the park, young people exercising, older men meditating, and musicians rehearsing with the youth symphony orchestra. Back when I was a student, I used to come here to find inspiration for writing.

Without a doubt, walking through the park lets you breathe fresh air and completely disconnect from the daily grind, from downtown and its loud music, the motorcycles, and the hustle and bustle. This simple activity can be enough to bring you back to the essentials of life. There’s nothing better than peace and quiet for the mind and body to function at their best.

The park tends to be busiest during mango season, since there are several mango trees here of various varieties, including mangas; that’s why people come by to see if they’re lucky enough to have a sweet mango fall at their feet as they walk by, to brighten their day.
