Hello, black-and-white photography enthusiasts on Hive!

Yesterday, I was thinking about the photos I took during a visit to a café decorated with themes inspired by Halloween, and I decided to edit some of them to see the effect that a play of light and shadow—chiaroscuro—would create.

Cubans—natural-born coffee lovers—have always been characterized as cheerful, smiling, and resilient in the face of adversity.

In keeping with this, in recent years one finds them celebrating all sorts of occasions, even those not deeply rooted in their own culture. The point is simply to celebrate—the reason doesn't matter. And so, Halloween is not overlooked.

While I was thinking about editing the photos, a hummingbird came up beside me and hovered in place—as if looking right at me—and I was struck by the emotion of the moment. I knew then that I absolutely had to edit these photos and share them with this wonderful community!

Contrasts of a Cuban reality. Contrasts of a date. Contrasts of a coffee... And time.

And so, amidst film frames and coffee, I smile and bid you farewell for now—until the next black-and-white frame—but not before sending each of you a warm, radiant embrace!

Remember: don’t forget to smile!

This is my entry to the #monomad contest from monochromes@monochromes and brumest@brumest.

Thank you very much for your visit!

Recuerden, ¡no olviden sonreír!
