Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing great and welcome to another #Splinterlands post.
Today I wanted to continue my #Splinterlands Card Spotlight series, and this time I picked a card that surprised me for a completely different reason.
The card is, Canary Keeper.
Before I even looked at the abilities, one thing immediately caught my attention.
Its Black Foil variant costs around $400, which is honestly crazy for a Rare card.
That made me curious if the card is actually worth all that value, or if collectors are the main reason behind the high price.
So let's take a closer look.
At first glance, Canary Keeper doesn't really look like a powerhouse.
Its stats at Level 8 (max level) are:
Mana Cost: 2
Attack: 3 (Ranged)
Health: 5
Speed: 4
For just 2 mana, these stats are actually pretty impressive.
Three ranged attack for such a cheap card is definitely something that grabbed my attention.
It isn't designed to carry an entire team by itself, but I think it fits nicely into low mana battles where every mana point matters.
Also, the artwork is honestly pretty funny.
A grumpy little Saurian carrying a bird in a cage isn't exactly what I expected from a Fire unit.
Dispel: Removes magic buffs after a successful attack.
The first ability is Dispel.
Whenever Canary Keeper lands a successful attack, it removes magical buffs from the target.
I think this ability is a little underrated.
Sometimes your opponent spends several turns stacking buffs on an important monster.
One successful hit from Canary Keeper can remove those advantages.
It won't happen every game, but when it does, it can completely change the flow of a battle.
It's especially useful against monsters that rely on positive effects to stay alive or deal more damage.
Return Fire: Returns 50% of damage to attacker when hit by a ranged attack.
The second ability is Return Fire.
Whenever a ranged enemy attacks Canary Keeper, it reflects 50% of the damage back to the attacker.
I always enjoy abilities that punish opponents for attacking.
Your enemy thinks they're getting an easy hit.
Then suddenly they start taking damage themselves.
Against ranged-heavy teams, this can slowly weaken the enemy while your other monsters continue fighting.
It's not an ability you'll use every single match, but when the situation is right, it becomes surprisingly useful.
Personally, I think Canary Keeper shines most in low mana battles.
Since it only costs 2 mana, it's really easy to include without sacrificing stronger monsters.
You can spend most of your mana on tanks or legendary cards while still getting decent ranged damage from this little guy.
And because it attacks from the backline, it usually stays alive for several rounds unless your opponent has Sneak or Opportunity monsters.
That makes it a nice support attacker.
Overall, I think Canary Keeper is actually a pretty nice utility card.
It's not supposed to be your strongest damage dealer.
Instead, it gives solid ranged damage while also bringing two useful abilities that can annoy your opponent.
For only 2 mana, that's actually very good value.
I don't think many people will look at this card and immediately think "wow, this is amazing."
But after reading its abilities and imagining different situations, I can definitely see why experienced players might include it in certain lineups.
The Black Foil version being worth around $400 is still shocking to me though.
I guess collectors and competitive players really love rare cards like this.
Personally, I'd be happy just owning the regular version.
Anyway thats it for todayโs #Splinterlands grind. Please do give your reviews in the comments section below. I would really appreciate it :)
I'll be back with another one soon. So do follow me if you want to stay updated. Till then, Stay Happy and Stay Hydrated.
