Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing amazing and welcome to another #Splinterlands post.
Alright, time for another #Splinterlands card spotlight!
Today I'm looking at a card from the Fire Splinter that I think can be pretty nasty when used in the right lineup.
The card is, Torch Vizier.
Torch Vizier is a Rare Fire unit, and at Level 8, which is the max level, it has 2 abilities that give it a pretty interesting role.
Here are the stats:
Mana Cost: 5
Melee Attack: 5
Health: 7
Speed: 4
Armor: 0
And the abilities are:
Opportunity – Targets the enemy unit with the least health.
Deflect – Takes 0 damage from Corrosive Ward, Magic Reflect, Thorns, Return Fire, and Blast splash damage.
At first glance, those stats already look pretty good for only 5 mana.
But when you combine the 5 melee attack with Opportunity, that's where things get interesting.
The first thing that caught my attention was the 5 melee attack.
For a 5 mana unit, that's a pretty respectable amount of damage.
Obviously, Torch Vizier isn't some massive tank.
It has 7 health and zero armor, so I definitely wouldn't want it standing there and taking hits all battle.
But that's not really what this card is about.
The ability Opportunity means Torch Vizier automatically targets the enemy unit with the least health.
And honestly, I really like this kind of ability.
Instead of just hitting whatever is in front...
Torch Vizier can go after weaker enemies.
Sometimes that's exactly what you need to start removing units from the enemy team.
Opportunity: Targets the enemy unit with the least health.
Let's say your opponent has a frontline tank with a lot of health.
Behind that tank, they have a couple of weaker units sitting around with only a few health points.
Normally, your attacks might keep hitting the tank.
And the tank just keeps surviving.
But with Opportunity?
Torch Vizier looks for the enemy with the least health.
So it can start picking off those weaker units.
And once one of them is gone, there's one less attacker or support unit for your opponent.
This can make a big difference.
Sometimes removing one small support unit is more important than dealing extra damage to the main tank.
Deflect: 0 damage from Corrosive Ward, Magic Reflect, Thorns, Return Fire, and Blast splash damage.
Now we get to the second ability.
Deflect.
This ability protects Torch Vizier from certain forms of reflected or splash damage.
According to the ability, Torch Vizier takes 0 damage from:
Corrosive Ward
Magic Reflect
Thorns
Return Fire
Blast splash damage
That's actually pretty useful.
Especially if you're using Torch Vizier in a lineup where it might be attacking enemies that have defensive abilities.
Normally, attacking a unit with Thorns can hurt your melee attacker.
You deal damage...
And then you take damage back.
Not exactly ideal.
But Torch Vizier doesn't have to worry about those effects because of Deflect.
I think Torch Vizier fits pretty naturally into an aggressive Fire lineup.
Fire is already a Splinter where you can build some pretty strong offensive teams.
Adding a 5-mana unit with 5 melee attack gives you another source of damage without spending a huge amount of mana.
And because of Opportunity, it doesn't necessarily have to focus on the frontline.
That can make the enemy backline feel pretty unsafe.
If they have a low-health support unit sitting there...
Torch Vizier might decide that's dinner.
The opponent can't really hide those weak units from it.
Of course, Torch Vizier isn't perfect.
The biggest weakness for me is the 0 armor.
Seven health is decent, but without armor, it can be vulnerable to strong attacks.
And the 4 speed is okay, but it's not incredibly fast.
There are plenty of faster units that can attack before it.
Also, Opportunity can sometimes be annoying.
Imagine the enemy has a low-health unit that isn't very important...
While their main damage dealer has slightly more health.
Torch Vizier will still target the unit with the lowest health.
So you don't always get to choose the target you want.
That's just something you have to accept when using Opportunity.
Personally, I think Torch Vizier works best in battles where you want to play aggressively.
You want to put pressure on the enemy team and start removing weaker units quickly.
It's also useful when there are lots of abilities that can punish your attackers.
Because of Deflect, Torch Vizier can attack without worrying about things like Thorns or Return Fire.
That's a pretty nice advantage.
I wouldn't use it as my main tank though.
There are much better options for that.
I'd rather put a proper frontline tank ahead of Torch Vizier and let it do its thing from a safer position.
Overall, I actually like Torch Vizier quite a bit.
It's not one of those cards that needs a complicated strategy.
You basically have:
High melee damage + Opportunity + Deflect.
Simple.
But effective.
The 5 mana cost is also pretty nice because it gives you room to build the rest of your team around it.
And I think that's one of the best things about this card.
You aren't spending 8 or 10 mana just to get a strong attacker.
You spend 5 mana and get a card that can potentially remove weak enemies while ignoring a bunch of annoying defensive effects.
That's pretty good value in my opinion.
Anyway thats it for today’s #Splinterlands grind. Please do give your reviews in the comments section below. I would really appreciate it :)
I'll be back with another one soon. So do follow me if you want to stay updated. Till then, Stay Happy and Stay Hydrated.
