Hello gente, soy yo otra vez, y es que no podía esperar para mostrarles algo que me tiene muy feliz, y que por bastante tiempo estuve deseando hacer en casa, y se trata de una pequeña renovación en mi cocina para que se adaptara un poco más a los cambios que he ido haciendo en distintas áreas de la casa, y uno de las principales cosas que quería hacer era cambiar el color del salpicadero y de la encimera o mesón, ya que ambos son de color negro, y al ser nuestra cocina bastante pequeña el negro la hacía ver mucho más chica y oscura.
Esta idea la tenía desde hace mucho tiempo, pero retirar la cerámica y poner una nueva no era opción, ya que resultaría bastante costoso, así que lo había olvidado, pero por dicha ahora están en tendencia los paneles adhesivos y algunos a muy buen precio, así que después de organizarnos un poco y con un ingreso extra que tuvimos nos pusimos manos a la obra, y aunque aún no terminamos les muestro cómo vamos.
Hi everyone, it's me again. I just couldn't wait to show you something that has me really happy—something I've been wanting to do at home for quite a while— It’s a small renovation in my kitchen to bring it a little more in line with the changes I’ve been making in different areas of the house. One of the main things I wanted to do was change the color of the backsplash and the countertop, since both are black, and because our kitchen is pretty small, the black made it look much smaller and darker.
I’d had this idea for a long time, but removing the tiles and installing new ones wasn’t an option, since it would be quite expensive, so I’d forgotten about it. But luckily, adhesive panels are trendy right now, and some are very affordable. So, after getting organized a bit and with some extra income we had, we got to work. And even though we’re not quite finished yet, I’ll show you how it’s coming along.
Todo inició en Mango Bajito, una súper tienda dedicada a embellecer nuestro hogar, y fue ahí donde donde encontré unos paneles con un diseño geométrico en blanco y negro que amé desde el primer momento, pero como no siempre las cosas resultan como queremos (o eso creía), no había suficiente, pero como me había gustado tanto decidí llevarlos de igual forma y pensar luego qué hacer! Sí, sí, suelo hacer ese tipo de locuras.
Estos paneles los pueden encontrar en diferentes tamaños, materiales y precios, y en mi caso, el que trajimos a casa tiene una medida de 30x30 cms y cuestan 2.5$ cada uno, y de ellos trajimos solo ocho, y la verdad no sabía qué hacer, pero luego de analizar junto con la IA qué podía hacer en ese espacio, les cuento y les muestro cómo estuvo la cosa, y para ponerlos en contexto mi cocina es bastante pequeña y el mesón tiene forma de "L", y en él se unen el fregadero, el área de trabajo y la cocina.
It all started at Mango Bajito, a great store dedicated to beautifying our home, and that’s where I found some panels with a black-and-white geometric design that I loved from the very first moment. But since things don’t always turn out the way we want (or so I thought), there weren’t enough of them. Still, since I liked them so much, I decided to take them home anyway and figure out what to do later! Yeah, yeah, I tend to do that kind of crazy stuff.
You can find these panels in different sizes, materials, and price ranges. In my case, the ones we brought home measure 30x30 cm and cost $2.50 each. We only brought home eight of them, and to be honest, I didn’t know what to do with them, but after brainstorming with the AI about what I could do with that space, I’ll tell you and show you how it turned out. To give you some context, my kitchen is pretty small, and the countertop is L-shaped, combining the sink, the work area, and the stove.
Dicho esto, la decisión fue usar los paneles que compramos, en la parte superior del salpicadero, exactamente en la pared donde se encuentra el fregadero, y para el resto debemos comprar paneles de pvc que son similares a la fórmica, lo que es necesario tanto para la parte baja del salpicadero como la del mesón, porque son zonas expuestas al agua y al aceite, así que deben ser muy resistentes, y en cuanto al color, decidimos usar unos que simulan madera clara.
En cuanto a la pared más corta de la L, decidimos usar también los paneles tipo madera para dejar que la pared más larga sea el punto focal con el bellísimo diseño geométrico y ya con las láminas tipo madera crear un zocalo que se extenderá por toda la superficie de la mesada aportando mucha más luz.
That said, we decided to use the panels we bought for the top of the backsplash—specifically on the wall where the sink is located—and for the rest, we’ll need to buy PVC panels that look like Formica. These are necessary for both the bottom of the backsplash and the countertop, since those areas are exposed to water and oil, so they need to be very durable. As for the color, we decided to use panels that mimic light wood.
As for the shorter wall of the L, we also decided to use the wood-look panels to let the longer wall be the focal point with its beautiful geometric design, and to use the wood-look panels to create a baseboard that will run along the entire length of the countertop, bringing in much more light.
Lo primero que hice fue retirar todo lo que estaba en el mesón y limpiar muy bien el salpicadero.
El siguiente paso fue comenzar a pegar las láminas una al lado de la otra con mucho cuidado, asegurándonos al pegar la siguiente, de dejar una pequeña separación para que todo se vea lo mejor posible. Y aunque esto parece un proyecto rápido, no lo es tanto, pero sin duda valió la pena.
Entre las cosas que compramos para darle un poquito de amor a nuestra cocina tenemos cosas necesarias y no tan necesarias:
Una Greca, que para ser sinceros es nuestra primera greca, ya que siempre tuvimos cafetera eléctrica, pero hace más de un año se nos dañó, y no sé si recuerdan que yo estaba loca por una greca, pero la quería verde menta, y aunque tuve que desistir por lo difícil de la misión, la blanca que compramos es preciosa y se adapta a la perfección al cambio que quería darle a mi cocina.
Envases de cocina para la sal, azúcar, harina y arroz, y estos entran en la categoría de necesarios, ya que los que teníamos en uso eran bastante viejitos y aunque los había renovado hace dos años las roscas ya daban muchos problemas, así que compramos estas bellezas que ven abajo en Mango Bajito, y al igual que la Greca hacen un match perfecto con la cocina.
Porta utensilios y envase para el aceite, estos entrarían en la categoría de artículos no necesarios, pero la verdad estaban tan bonitos que era imposible dejarlos, sobre todo porque tenían muy buen precio.
Espumador para café con leche y por supuesto esta es otra compra que podemos considerar no necesaria, pero es lindo y estaba barato!
Installing the Panels
The first thing I did was clear everything off the countertop and thoroughly clean the backsplash.
The next step was to start carefully gluing the panels side by side, making sure to leave a small gap when attaching the next one so that everything would look its best. And although this seems like a quick project, it’s not quite as fast as it seems—but it was definitely worth it.
New Additions
Among the things we bought to give our kitchen a little love, there are some essentials and some not-so-essentials:
Essentials
A Greca—which, to be honest, is our first Greca, since we’ve always had an electric coffee maker, but it broke over a year ago. I don’t know if you remember that I was crazy about getting a Greca, but I wanted it in mint green, and even though I had to give up on that because it was such a difficult task, the white one we bought is gorgeous and fits perfectly with the new look I wanted to give my kitchen.
Kitchen containers for salt, sugar, flour, and rice—these fall into the necessities category, since the ones we were using were pretty old, and even though I’d replaced them two years ago, the threads were already causing a lot of problems, so we bought these beauties you see below at Mango Bajito, and just like the Greca ones, they’re a perfect match for the kitchen.
Not So Necessary
Utensil holder and oil container—these would fall into the non-essential category, but honestly, they were so pretty that it was impossible to pass them up, especially since they were such a great deal.
Milk frother—and of course, this is another purchase we can consider non-essential, but it’s cute and was cheap!
