Renovación del closet de mi hija | Renovating My Daughter's Closet 🔨✂️

Hello chicos, como han estado? Hoy por fin un poco más calmados por estos lados, y es que el cuarto de Miranda al fin está un 90% listo. Lo que está faltando por terminar son detalles que aún hay que comprar para complementar lo que es la decoración de la habitación, pero por lo menos terminamos de pintar, y darle un cambio al closet, pero ayer finalmente pasamos todas sus cosas a la habitación.

Y justamente es del closet de lo que les quiero hablar hoy, ya que decidimos cambiarlo por completo puesto que la paleta de colores que estábamos utilizando en el cuarto, como lo saben, incluye blanco, lila y tonos pastel, y este closet era de madera oscura, y la verdad contrastaba demasiado con el resto de la habitación, así que decidimos darle un cambio de imagen para que toda la habitación tuviese el mismo aspecto.

Hi, guys, how have you been? Things are finally a little calmer around here today, since Miranda’s room is finally 90% done. All that’s left to finish are a few details we still need to buy to complete the room’s decor, but at least we’ve finished painting and giving the closet a makeover, and yesterday we finally moved all her things into the room.

And it’s actually the closet I want to talk to you about today, since we decided to completely revamp it. As you know, the color palette we were using in the room includes white, lilac, and pastel shades, and this closet was made of dark wood—and honestly, it contrasted too much with the rest of the room—so we decided to give it a makeover so the whole room would have a consistent look.

Como les comenté, la madera del closet es bastante oscura por lo que necesitabamos cambiar su color a blanco, pero el trabajo más grande fue en la parte interior, ya que la pared necesitaba en algunas zonas ser reparada debido a que la humedad las había dañado. Por otro lado, toda la madera que se utilizó dentro no estaba ni siquiera estaba barnizada, así que decidimos transformar tanto por fuera como por dentro ya que la ropa de la niña estaría allí y queríamos todo lo más prolijo y limpio posible.

Así que el plan para la parte de adentro era: reparar las partes dañadas por la humedad, pintar, colocar una lámina con adhesivo aluminizado para evitar la humedad en las zonas cercanas al piso, sellar todas las separaciones entre la pared y la madera y cubrir las repisas con la misma lámina adhesiva.

Como ven fue bastante trabajo pero quedó bellísimo, y ya les cuento lo que usamos.

As I mentioned, the wood on the closet is quite dark, so we needed to paint it white, but the biggest job was on the inside, since the wall needed to be repaired in some areas because moisture had damaged it. On top of that, none of the wood used on the inside had even been varnished, so we decided to renovate both the exterior and interior since the girl’s clothes would be stored there, and we wanted everything to look as neat and clean as possible.

So the plan for the interior was: repair the areas damaged by moisture, paint, apply a sheet of aluminum-coated adhesive film to prevent moisture in the areas near the floor, seal all the gaps between the wall and the wood, and cover the shelves with the same adhesive film.

As you can see, it was quite a bit of work, but it turned out beautifully, and I’ll tell you what we used soon.

Paso a paso/ Step by step

Para los que me leen por primera vez les cuento que ya hace unos meses había iniciado pintando los laterales del closet y una de las puertas, pero había hecho una pausa porque necesitábamos comprar las pinturas, así que, una vez que retomé este trabajo, inicié por la parte de adentro, y lo primero fue retirar todo el friso dañado y luego emparejar la pared con la pasta profesional, y una vez seca lijamos para que la superficie quedara lo más lisa posible.

Ya finalizado este paso se sellaron todas las pequeñas separaciones entre la madera y la pared con el tirro de papel. Esto con la finalidad de evitar que entren animalitos en esos espacios, y una vez se hizo esto por todos los lados del closet pintamos de color gris hasta la zona en que se aplicó la pasta profesional.

For those of you reading this for the first time, I’ll explain that a few months ago I had already started painting the sides of the closet and one of the doors, but I had taken a break because we needed to buy the paint, so, once I resumed this project, I started with the inside. The first step was to remove all the damaged trim and then level the wall with professional spackle. Once it was dry, we sanded it so the surface would be as smooth as possible.

Once this step was complete, we sealed all the small gaps between the wood and the wall with paper tape. This was done to prevent small animals from getting into those spaces, and once this was done on all sides of the closet, we painted it gray up to the area where the professional spackling compound had been applied.

Una vez que este paso estuvo listo y toda la pintura estuvo seca procedimos a colocar el adhesivo texturizado con el aislante en las zonas donde antes la humedad había causado daños para evitar que en un futuro vuelva a suceder, y sobre todo para mantener la humedad alejada de las paredes y de la ropa de Miranda, ya que como saben, es asmática.

Este proceso es bastante sencillo, aunque hay que hacerlo con cuidado, simplemente hay que tomar las medidas y cortar el material que vamos a usar, seguidamente despegar el papel protector y colocar directamente en la pared previamente limpia, presionando firmemente con las manos.

Once this step was complete and all the paint was dry, we applied the textured adhesive with the insulation to the areas where moisture had previously caused damage—to prevent it from happening again in the future and, above all, to keep moisture away from the walls and Miranda’s clothes, since, as you know, she has asthma.

This process is quite simple, although it must be done carefully. You simply take the measurements and cut the material you’re going to use, then peel off the protective paper and apply it directly to the previously cleaned wall, pressing firmly with your hands.

Con este paso finalizado, lo siguiente que hicimos fue colocar el mismo material adhesivo en las repisas de madera que se encuentran en uno de los laterales del closet, ya que cuenta con un área para colgar la ropa y al lado repisas para usos varios, que en este caso es para la ropa de diario y la ropa de cama de Miranda.

Para esto procedemos de la misma forma que lo hicimos anteriormente. Tomamos la medida recortamos y pegamos sobre la madera, y por supuesto, cubrimos la parte delantera de cada repisa para que el trabajo se viese bastante prolijo.

Una vez terminadas las tres repisas las colocamos en su lugar y pasamos a terminar las puertas.

With this step complete, the next thing we did was apply the same adhesive material to the wooden shelves on one side of the closet, since it has a hanging area for clothes and shelves next to it for various uses—in this case, for Miranda’s everyday clothes and bedding.

To do this, we followed the same procedure as before. We took the measurements, cut the material to size, and glued it to the wood; and, of course, we covered the front of each shelf so the finished look would be neat and tidy.

Once the three shelves were finished, we put them in place and moved on to finishing the doors.

Para las puertas tuvimos que cubrir con tres capas de pintura, que en este caso es de un acabado acrílico para poder limpiarlas, ya que es un área que se va a tocar a diario, y mi nena no es muy cuidadosa que digamos, así que debe ser lavable.

Una vez estuvieron pintadas y secas las ubicamos en su lugar, y como pueden ver es un closet totalmente diferente al closet con el que iniciamos y mucho más adecuado a la condición de salud de Miranda.

For the doors, we had to apply three coats of paint—in this case, an acrylic finish—so we could clean them, since this is an area that will be touched every day, and my little girl isn’t exactly the most careful, so it needs to be washable.

Once they were painted and dry, we put them in place, and as you can see, it’s a completely different closet from the one we started with—and much better suited to Miranda’s health needs.

Aunque parece un trabajo muy extenuante, la verdad es que en solo dos días se terminó (respetando el tiempo de secador de la pintura y la pasta profesional) y la verdad es que valió la pena, ya que el closet quedó precioso. Ustedes qué dicen?
