Hello chicos, qué tal están? Por aquí completamente agotada, pero también absolutamente feliz, y es que como saben estuve apoyando en la Escuela Bíblica de Vacaciones (EBV) de este año. Y si se están preguntando qué es la EBV, es básicamente un plan vacacional en el que durante una semana niños de la comunidad aprenden sobre la Biblia, al tiempo que realizan manualidades, aprenden canciones y coreografías, realizan actividades recreativas y disfrutan de deliciosas meriendas.
Esta es una actividad que estuvo a mi cargo durante muchos años en mi iglesia y en la que hace mucho que no participaba y aunque las riendas ahora la lleva otra persona poder ser parte de todo este trabajo nuevamente ha sido una bendición, y es que trabajar con niños es lo mejor del mundo mundial.
Hi, guys, how are you doing? I’m completely exhausted here, but also absolutely happy—because, as you know, I was helping out at this year’s Vacation Bible School (VBS). And if you’re wondering what VBS is, it’s basically a week-long program where kids from the community learn about the Bible while doing crafts, learning songs and dance routines, participating in recreational activities, and enjoying delicious snacks.
This is an activity I was in charge of for many years at my church, and it’s been a long time since I’ve participated. Even though someone else is leading it now, being able to be part of all this work again has been a blessing—because working with kids is the best thing in the whole wide world.
Cada año se le asigna a la EBV un nombre diferente y ese nombre marca toda la ambientación y el tema con el que se va a trabajar, y este año el nombre y la temática seleccionada fue Estación Iluminación, iluminando quién es realmente Jesús, y por supuesto que al hablar de iluminación, toda la ambientación estuvo relacionada con la luz y super colorida. Se usaron luces neón, muchísimos globos en tonos neón y todo tipo de decoración que se pueda imaginar que resultará llamativa para los niños.
Este año tuvimos una matrícula de 70 niños y adolescentes que fueron organizados por edades, formando cinco grupos que iban desde los dos años hasta los diecisiete.
Every year, the EBV is given a different name, and that name sets the tone for the entire atmosphere and the theme we’ll be working with. This year, the name and theme selected were Season of Enlightenment, shedding light on who Jesus really is, and of course, since we were talking about enlightenment, the entire atmosphere was centered around light and was incredibly colorful. We used neon lights, lots of neon-colored balloons, and every kind of decoration you can imagine that would catch the children’s attention.
This year we had 70 children and teens enrolled, who were organized by age into five groups ranging from two to seventeen years old.
Particularmente siempre me ha gustado trabajar con niños entre los 5 y 8 años, y por dicha lo tomaron en cuenta y me asignaron a los peques de 6 y 7 años, y el nombre que tenía nuestro grupo era Lámparas.
Este grupo junto con el de 2 a 5 años son los que tienen menor cantidad de participantes justamente por la edad de los niños, y en mi caso mi matrícula estuvo variando durante la semana entre 7 y 9 niños, y les cuento que mis pequeñas lamparitas se portaron increíblemente bien. Todos se sorprendían al pasar por mi salón y verlos tan tranquilos, pero donde realmente me sorprendieron fue en las actividades grupales, ya que se mantenían juntos y súper ordenados y bien portados.
I’ve always particularly enjoyed working with children between the ages of 5 and 8, and fortunately, they took that into account and assigned me to the 6- and 7-year-olds; our group was called Lámparas.
This group, along with the 2- to 5-year-olds, has the fewest participants precisely because of the children’s age, and in my case, my enrollment fluctuated throughout the week between 7 and 9 children—and I have to tell you, my little “Lámparas” behaved incredibly well. Everyone was surprised when they walked past my classroom and saw them so calm, but where they really surprised me was during group activities, since they stayed together, were super organized, and behaved very well.
Desde el lunes hasta el día de ayer nos reunimos desde las 9 de la mañana hasta las 12 del medio día y comenzábamos la jornada con una actividad grupal llena de música, coreografías, diversión y por supuesto la historia bíblica que era contada a través de pequeñas dramatizaciones o por medio de títeres.
Una vez terminaba la primera parte los grupos se separaban e iban a sus respectivos espacios donde hacíamos un repaso de la historia utilizando diferentes dinámicas y teníamos un tiempo para manualidades que sin dudas es lo que ellos más disfrutan, y debo confesar que yo también.
From Monday through yesterday, we met from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and began each day with a group activity filled with music, dance routines, fun, and, of course, the Bible story, which was told through short skits or puppet shows.
Once the first part was over, the groups split up and went to their respective spaces, where we reviewed the story using different activities and had some time for crafts—which is undoubtedly what they enjoy most, and I must confess, so do I.
Esta parte tomaba una hora y luego se volvían a unir los grupos para las actividades recreativas que consistían en juegos bien dinámicos para los chicos, para finalmente cerrar con la merienda, pero para el día de hoy, que fue nuestro último día, se decidió cambiar el horario para la tarde (de 5 a 7pm) y cerrar con broche de oro con una fiesta neon con las luces apagadas y mucho brillo, pero este cuento se los dejo para otro día.
Hoy solo quería contarles cómo estuvo la actividad y lo mucho que la disfruté y es que sin dudas es una bendición estar rodeada de niños, llenarse de esa energía bonita, de su ternura y reír con sus ocurrencias, pero sobre todo recibir esos abrazos apretados cada día que llenan ml corazón y que me impulsan a devolverles un poquito de todo lo que ellos me dieron en estos días, y es que esta EBV ha sido una experiencia simplemente maravillosa, y definitivamente estoy más feliz que cansada!
This part took an hour, and then the groups got back together for recreational activities, which consisted of very energetic games for the kids, finally wrapping up with a snack, but for today—which was our last day—we decided to shift the schedule to the afternoon (from 5 to 7 p.m.) and end on a high note with a neon party with the lights off and lots of glitter, but I’ll save that story for another day.
Today I just wanted to tell you about the activity and how much I enjoyed it—because it’s undoubtedly a blessing to be surrounded by children, to be filled with their beautiful energy and tenderness, and to laugh at their funny remarks, but above all, to receive those tight hugs every day that fill my heart and inspire me to give them back a little bit of everything they’ve given me these past few days, This EBV has been a simply wonderful experience, and I’m definitely happier than I am tired!
