Keeping Creativity Alive During the Blackouts / #monomad challenge / [ING/ESP]

Adapting to the new normal in Cuba, where we spend almost the entire day without electricity or Internet, is a difficult and demanding process. Food spoils, electrical equipment suffers from constant power outages, and the heat becomes unbearable, especially at night.
Faced with this reality, many people have found ways to protect their mental health and stay entertained. Board games like dominoes have made a comeback, along with other hobbies that don't depend on electricity.
In my case, I like to use some of that time to revisit photography techniques that can become rusty when they aren't practiced regularly. Over the past few days, I've been meeting with a couple of friends to review different lighting setups, discuss when to use them, and share a few tips. As long as our phones still have some battery left, we check the results and talk about what we can improve. Fortunately, I have a set of battery powered lights that is more than enough for these small experiments.
Our subjects can be literally anything. This time, we used a plaster skull that one of our teachers donated to us some time ago. Other times it might be fruit, chess pieces, or whatever objects we have nearby.
The most rewarding part of these sessions is realizing that those skills are still there, ready to be applied naturally even after a long time without using them.

Adaptarse a la nueva normalidad en Cuba, donde pr谩cticamente pasamos todo el d铆a sin electricidad ni Internet, es un proceso complicado y muy exigente. La comida se echa a perder, los equipos el茅ctricos sufren con los constantes apagones y el calor se vuelve insoportable, especialmente durante la noche.
Ante esta situaci贸n, muchas personas han encontrado formas de proteger su salud mental y mantenerse entretenidas. Han regresado los juegos de mesa, como el domin贸, y otros pasatiempos que no dependen de la electricidad.
En mi caso, aprovecho algunos de esos momentos para repasar t茅cnicas fotogr谩ficas que, por falta de pr谩ctica, pueden ir perdi茅ndose con el tiempo. En los 煤ltimos d铆as he estado reuni茅ndome con un par de amigos para volver sobre distintos esquemas de iluminaci贸n, analizar cu谩ndo utilizarlos y compartir algunos consejos. Mientras el m贸vil conserva algo de bater铆a, revisamos los resultados y comentamos qu茅 podemos mejorar. Afortunadamente, cuento con un juego de luces que funciona con bater铆as, m谩s que suficiente para realizar este tipo de experimentos.
Los modelos pueden ser, literalmente, cualquier cosa. En esta ocasi贸n utilic茅 una calavera de yeso que una profesora de la escuela nos don贸 hace alg煤n tiempo. Otras veces pueden ser frutas, piezas de ajedrez o cualquier objeto que tenga a mano.
Lo m谩s reconfortante de estos ejercicios es comprobar que esos conocimientos siguen ah铆, listos para aplicarse con naturalidad despu茅s de tanto tiempo.
