(ENG/ESP) Fanart Galáctico Expressions Sheet – Starzinger /Fanart de Hoja de Expresiones de Galáctico – El Galáctico.
El fin de semana, me puse a ver una de mis series favoritas de Mecha: Saiyuki Starzinger o conocida en Latinoamérica como El Galáctico.
Esta obra fue creada por Leiji Matsumoto (creador del Capitán Harlock) con colaboración de Ozamu Tezuka (creador de Astro Boy entre otras obras) a finales de los 70´s. El estilo de Matsumoto es bastante evidente sobre todo en los personajes femeninos, que muestras mucha gracia y delicadeza mientras que los personajes masculinos son atléticos y a la vez elegantes.
La historia se basa en el viaje que hacen la Princesa Aurora y tres cibernéticos, quienes son sus guardaespaldas, desde la Tierra hasta el Gran Planeta en el centro de la Galaxia con la finalidad de restaurar la energía galáctica que se encuentra debilitada y por eso muchas criaturas están mutando, convirtiéndose en terribles monstruóbulos.
Galáctico (Jan Kugo en la versión original) es uno de esos cibernéticos. Es el ciborg más poderoso de la galaxia, pero también el más rebelde e irreverente. Nadie había podido controlarlo, por lo que fue confinado en una esfera de energía en la Luna para evitar que siguiera haciendo daño. Posteriormente, se le asigna la misión de cuidar a Aurora en su viaje y, para mantenerlo bajo control, se le coloca un aro magnético con el cual ella puede ejercer control usando su poder mental.
Su nave es la Nave Flamígera, rápida y veloz. Galáctico se convierte en una especie de mensajero entre Aurora y la Tierra ya que cada vez que necesitaban algo, él podía viajar enormes distancias con la velocidad supersónica entre la ubicación de la nave Reina del Cosmos donde viajaban y el laboratorio de la Dra. Sandra, quien es la científica que creó la nave y cuidó de Aurora desde que tenía 5 años y llegó a la Tierra procedente de la Luna.
Sus otros compañeros son Giorgio (Sa Jogo) y Glotín (Don Haka). Estos cibernéticos son especializados en técnicas de agua y tierra, respectivamente. Los tres juntos son la mejor defensa que puede tener Aurora y ellos estarían dispuestos a entregar sus vidas por ella.
Así que, luego de ver la serie, hice una práctica de expresiones de Galáctico. Aún se me hace difícil su diseño.
Lo más llamativo y algo difícil de captar es la forma de su rostro, su nariz y el estilo de cabello el cual hace honor a lo rebelde e irreverente que es este personaje.
Es impresionante la cantidad de expresiones que tenía entre un punto y otro de una secuencia de animación. Es una lástima que muchas de ellas se pierden a la vista, ya que la mayoría de sus escenas están animadas a 1-1, es decir, por cada cuadro hay un movimiento ya que era un personaje sumamente inquieto y enérgico.
¡Debió ser agotador para los animadores que tuvieron que trabajar sus escenas!
Fue una práctica bastante divertida. Tomé las emociones básicas y dibujé tres expresiones con diferentes grados de exageración. Galáctico es un personaje bastante heroico pero muy divertido a la vez.

On the weekend, I started watching one of my favorite Mecha series: Saiyuki Starzinger, known in Latin America as The Galactic.
This work was created by Leiji Matsumoto (creator of Captain Harlock) with the collaboration of Osamu Tezuka (creator of Astro Boy among other works) in the late 70s. Matsumoto's style is quite evident, especially in the female characters, who show a lot of grace and delicacy, while the male characters are athletic and elegant at the same time.
The story is based on the journey of Princess Aurora and her three cyborg bodyguards from Earth to the Great Planet at the center of the Galaxy to restore the weakened galactic energy, which is causing many creatures to mutate into terrible monstrosities.
Galactic (Jan Kugo in the original version) is one of those cyborgs. He is the most powerful cyborg in the galaxy, but also the most rebellious and irreverent. No one had been able to control him, so he was confined in an energy sphere on the Moon to prevent him from causing further harm. Later, he is assigned the mission of protecting Aurora on her journey, and to keep him under control, a magnetic ring is placed on him, which she can use to exert control with her mental power.
His ship is the Flame Ship, fast and swift. Galactic becomes a sort of messenger between Aurora and Earth, as every time they needed something, he could travel enormous distances at supersonic speed between the location of the Queen of the Cosmos ship where they traveled and Dr. Sandra's laboratory, who is the scientist that created the ship and has taken care of Aurora since she was 5 years old and arrived on Earth from the Moon.
His other companions are Giorgio (Sa Jogo) and Glotín (Don Haka). These cyborgs specialize in water and earth techniques, respectively. The three together are the best defense Aurora can have, and they would be willing to give their lives for her.
So, after watching the series, I practiced some expressions of Galactic. I still find his design quite challenging.
The most striking and somewhat difficult to grasp is the shape of his face, his nose, and the hairstyle which honors the rebellious and irreverent nature of this character.
It is impressive how many expressions he had between one point and another in an animation sequence. It’s a shame that many of them are lost to sight, as most of his scenes are animated at 1-1, meaning that for every frame there is a movement since he was a highly restless and energetic character.
It must have been exhausting for the animators who had to work on his scenes!
It was a pretty fun practice. I took the basic emotions and drew three expressions with different degrees of exaggeration. Galactic is a quite heroic character but very funny at the same time.
