My father used to say, being stubborn can never be a good thing. Because I have been a stubborn person since childhood, you can say it's part of my nature now. I believe the opposite of my father, I think stubbornness can make things better at sometimes. I have experienced both sides of it in my life. I think both left a big impact on me in different ways. I will start with the good things, first of of all. I have been stubborn about is my daughters. We live in Bangladesh here people have strong opinions about how girls should dress or behave or do something in their lives. Everyone loves to put their nose into other's matter.
What I want for my daughters is to have freedom of choice, I am no one to give them freedom. As they are very young now, I can only guide them. I want to make them feel free not suffocated. I don't want them to abide by the so called society. I want them to wear what they like not what others expect. When they grow up, I want them to take their own decisions not depend on her parents. I want my daughters to become independent. I'm their father, I will give my best to protect them, but I don't want to be someone who would control everything they do. I have heard one thing from everyone that, I am not a good father. Because they think I shouldn't be giving my daughters too much freedom. But these people do not know how much stubborn I am. I believe when my daughters will grow up they will anyway understand if I was right or wrong. No need for strangers to agree with me, only the opinion of my daughters matters the most to me.
So far, I think my stubbornness has paid off. I can see that my daughters trust me. They can talk to me without being afraid. They know their father will listen to them. For me, that trust is worth more than other people's opinions. But there is another side of my stubbornness, and this one has been much harder. I have been stubborn about my business. So, like I said before I'm very stubborn but it has gone wrong this time. I have failed and spent years behind it, instead of finding a job. I had high hopes and belief in myself. I thought in the next few years the opportunity would change everything. And, I still believe it's going to happen next year. Because business do not grow in one night. Maybe, I will finally succeed in the future.
My stubbornness caused my family to suffer financially. I have thought about it multiple times that if I should stop now? Should I start looking for a job? My family has suffered because I kept holding onto my dream. But it's my life and my journey, I don't think other people holds any say in it because they are not in my shoes. I still cannot completely let it go of this business mindset of mine. Both experiences taught me that stubbornness is not always good or bad. It depends on what we are holding onto. Being stubborn at least did something good for me and my daughters. At least they trust me. And being stubborn with my business brought difficulties to my family. Being strong should mean we should never give up or get influenced by others, it also means knowing when something needs to change.
