Friends, yesterday I got a very interesting book called "The Etymology of the Names of the Palaearctic Birds". Therefore, in addition to scientific names, I will now write what their latin names mean.
馃 The common redstart (Phoenicurus phoenicurus)
馃摎 "phoinix" - dark red, "oura" - tail (greece)
And here in Russian and some Slavic languages, this bird is called "burning tail".
The fact is that at the sight of danger, this bird shakes her's red tail, and it is very similar to a burning flame.
Males have bright red plumage, while females are brownish and faded. As you might have guessed, this is a female in the photo above.
When a danger arises, namely a danger to the female or the nest. The male bravely tries to divert the attention of the enemy to himself, shaking his "fiery" tail, and leading away.
By the way, over the past three years I began to notice that these birds began to settle next to people. For example, this year I saw this bird in the school yard, she lived in the bushes.
