馃 The Oriental cuckoo or Horsfield's cuckoo (Cuculus optatus)

  • Cuculus (lat.) cuckoo
  • optatus (Lat.) desired

You have all likely seen鈥攁nd certainly heard鈥攖he common cuckoo. But this is a different species, and you will have to take my word for it, because outwardly these birds are indistinguishable! The differences lie in a slight variation in size and, most importantly, the call! We call this species the "deaf cuckoo."

Their call is completely different! It resembles the hoopoe's call, but is deeper, lower-pitched, and slower. it sounds like "doo-doo-doo".
Furthermore, they primarily inhabit coniferous forests, although I encountered this particular bird in a forest by the riverbank.
