🦉 The Eurasian golden oriole (Oriolus oriolus)

  • Oriolus oryolus (lat.) oriole [Old French. oryol oriole, aureolus gold]

This beautiful, vibrant bird arrives late—in mid-May. I have just one week to photograph it before the trees begin to bloom. It loves hiding deep within the thickets, and it does so skillfully, despite its strikingly bright yellow plumage.

It is easy to hear this bird, as it frequently calls and sings. Its voice consists of a flute-like warble and a sharp, piercing cry—like the sound a cat makes when someone steps on its tail.
