This species of woodpeckers is quite rare in itself, and in my city, respectively, too.
But in 2019, I met them more often than usual. The first time I met a male in early spring, when it was already warm, but there was still a lot of snow. The male drummed on the tree, showing the females his abilities. However, I did not see females then.
And in the summer, I met this pair, and the male (most likely the same one that I saw in the spring) and the female. The male differs from the female by the presence of a red cap on his head.
