This bird is one of the last to appear, when the trees are already generously dressed with foliage. "Red sparrow" - that's what it was called before, although it has no relation to the sparrow genus. But its raspberry-pink male (females are more modest, in gray-brown tones) immediately catches the eye. But the main thing is the song of the male. He doesn't just sing, but rather politely introduces himself: the short phrase "nice to meet you!" is carried around the area.

This bird lives exclusively in bushes, be it river thickets, forest edges or forest thickets. It builds its nest there, not high from the ground. It feeds mainly on plant food, such as buds, seeds and berries. But during the nestling feeding season, it adds insects to its menu.
