Birdwatching - 2016 🐦

🦉 The little stint (Calidris minuta) (or Erolia minuta)

• Calidris kalidris or skalidris (Greek) unknown bird mentioned by Aristotle
• minuta Latin: minutus small, minutellus very small
• Erolia erolie (French) "curlew sandpiper".

These tiny sandpipers live in the very north, namely the northern taiga and northern tundra, so it is very rare to see them in my region. I met a small group of these birds at the end of September far outside the city near the river. 4 birds were walking along the rocky shore.

These restless guys were always on the move and did not stop for a second. They found some aquatic insects on the stones that had remained from the summer. I managed to crawl up to them and take a photo. After about 20 minutes, the birds suddenly took off all together and flew further along the river.
