🦉 The common redpoll or mealy redpoll (Acanthis flammea)

• Acanthis in ancient Greek. mythology daughter of Autonous and sister Acanthus; when Acanthis sobbed over the murdered Acanthus, the gods turned her into a bird.

Truly northern birds living in the Arctic tundra and northern forests. But with the arrival of cold weather, large flocks of these birds begin to migrate south in search of food. and by the end of autumn I already meet them in the forests of my city.

During this time, they feed on various plant seeds. I often see how they hover on birch catkins and peck out small seeds from them, and then go down to pick up the fallen ones. They also eat wormwood.
