🦉 The common rosefinch (Carpodacus erythrinus)

These bright, beautiful "sparrows" are seed-eaters (as suggested by the shape and size of their beaks), and one might expect them to arrive in early spring. But they don't. They arrive quite late due to their peculiar migration route: they first fly far to the east and only then head back.
Adult males are beautiful and pink, with the plumage color becoming more intense as the bird ages; however, females and first-year males look alike—drab and brown.
