🦉 The black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius)

I met a family of these big guys in a mixed forest at the end of July. There were two parents and three teenagers there. They sat on trees in a small area and inspected them for insects. Young people also took part in this; they learned to get their own food.

They moved from tree to tree for a long time and carefully inspecting them, this is one of the features of this species, unlike other species of woodpeckers.
Teenagers are not yet experienced in these matters, but when they become adults, they will rip off the bark from trees, leaving behind a huge amount of chips below.
