I am very happy when I meet these beautiful colorful birds. For some reason they don't show up very often. Most often, of course, in the spring, during the mating season. I can hear them flying in flocks through the forest. And I am even more happy when they come down from the trees and I manage to photograph them.

As you can guess from their scientific name in Latin, they just love thistles. And it happens that they raid the fields with this plant in whole flocks. They sit and slowly, literally enjoying, pick out the seeds of this plant from the inflorescence.
