🦉 The great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major)
📚 Dendrocopos Greek: dendron tree, coptō to hit, beat
📚 major (lat.) large
The most numerous and common species, which is found throughout the year everywhere, in all types of forests.
Now you can already hear how they drum on a tree, thereby notifying the others that this territory is already occupied by them. As far as I know, in villages, woodpeckers even drum on lampposts and other metal surfaces, because this way the sound is better.
In summer, you can see very young woodpeckers who modestly and quietly sit on a tree and wait for their parents to arrive with food. They are easily recognizable by a large red cap on the entire surface of the head (in adult males, this cap is on the back of the head).
It is very important not to scare them, and not to attract attention. After all, birds of prey may be interested in what you saw there, and when you leave, they will definitely come to see.
