I needed to test my mind today, as most of you know, I have been running so much less since my wife started her chemo’s. While I only started getting some rhythm back since last week, I know I needed to do a half marathon today soley on willpower - I believe that by pushing yourself a little you can easily create a mental reference point. Knowing that you can do this undertrained is a good mental boost - that will keep me motivated in both extending the distance aswell as relaxing on the shorter distances. For example last week +/- 13 km was a mental challenge (“ can I still do this? “, “ you are not as good anymore as 3 months ago”) it is easy to listen to those voices but better to challenge them.
My challenge was to make loops of 4 - 6 km close to my place. After the second loop some self doubt came - “just end it here and safe yourself for tomorrow” as my mind wanted to protect me from a potential goal miss. But it was ok to silence these voices by just thinking “i can do this and if this stupid voice is coming back I will do it another this this week aswell”
It was beautiful weather, a little warm actually for running sober. But I managed and quite enjoyed myself
