Sprints & Running at El Vigía
On this occasion, I went to join the runner team of my city to do a couple of sprints.
I went to the calisthenics park feeling very excited to train, but upon realizing that nobody had arrived and that the weather was very cloudy—promising a solitary day—I decided to accept the invitation from my city's runners. They invited me to join them to shoot promotional photos and videos for their upcoming race, as well as do some uphill sprints to finish. For this, we headed to one of my favorite areas of the city: essentially the slope of El Vigía hill, where Fortín Solano is located, offering a clear view of the city from above. Since there is an ascending road leading toward the fortress, they took advantage of that first incline section to run sprints and turn back.
Curiously, this reminds me that the running community in my country, Venezuela, is extremely active and has a strong presence on the blockchain. I should talk to all these runners about Hive; they would make excellent content creators sharing very interesting material about their sport.
After jogging a bit, I limited myself to photographing their running session from the starting line. It is worth mentioning that these short sprint sessions feature rest intervals of over two minutes, but that doesn't mean they are simple or easy to do. Here are several photographs I took during this sprint session as night began to fall.
Adapting plans when the bars are quiet allows for fresh opportunities to capture movement and energy in different settings. Trading a solo static workout for explosive uphill runs along the base of El Vigía brings a new dynamic to local sport photography.
Documenting the local runner community highlights the grit required for incline sprint work. I hope these photographs capture the athletic intensity and dusk atmosphere along the road to the fortress.
I hope you enjoyed these photographs. Without anything more to add, I bid farewell. Stay tuned for future posts! Until next time!
