Greetings, my dear friends of the Throwback Thursday community. It's Thursday and reviewing my photo archive, I have found those that show one of the many visits that, as a community psychiatrist, I usually make to very intricate places in the mountainous municipality where I work.

I have always felt that, as the National Hero of Cuba, José Martí, pointed out at one point in his extraordinary existence, that "the mountain stream pleases me more than the sea."

And I make the clarification that it is not that I do not like the sea; it is impossible for me not to be enraptured by the marine majesty. What happens is that, as I have read more than once and with good reason, one may need a bricklayer, an electrician, a doctor, a pilot, and whatever professions there are, once, but a farmer, a peasant, every day of one's life, because every day we have to eat.

And that is the pragmatic and honorable importance of sharing with them, of, in my case, cooperating with them by facilitating their health and emotional well-being. Together with this is the extraordinary beauty of the countryside that you will be able to verify once again in the photos that I share with you, which today make me remember the effort and fatigue that climbing and descending endless mountains leave, with the oasis of contemplating the beauty firsthand and taking as many photos as possible. The fatigue passes, but the pride and satisfaction remain.

To the most intricate places in my mountainous municipality, you have to leave at dawn, to take the transport that will take us to where conventional motor vehicles can go, from there the most rugged mountains begin. I almost always arrive before the sun rises, so I am well bundled up.

It is then that I have the habit, besides climbing and climbing, of enjoying the landscape and at the same time taking photos of it.

Sometimes a downpour surprises me on the way, which at the same time is accompanied by the magic of a beautiful rainbow that I rush to immortalize in an image.

I also enjoy finding a gourd tree, which are the ones that artisanally allow the making of maracas that for centuries have constituted the Cuban peasant musical tradition, a national pride, along with the peasant guateques, the improvised décima, and the oral tradition that includes myths, legends, and green medicine.

Sometimes some people say that 'the countryside is for the birds,' but they do not take into account the Martí saying which expresses that from a people of farmers, a herd will never be made.

And this image represents the main economic item of my municipality, Segundo Frente; it is a coffee plant, already with its ripe beans, ready to be picked and after the preparation process, it will become the highly coveted morning cup of coffee, a real treasure.

It is an unparalleled experience for me to be closer to the clouds and verify that the earth is an authentic source of wealth. I couldn't resist taking a selfie next to the trunk of a royal palm, our national tree.

And I say goodbye until a new meeting, my dear friends, where it is very possible that I will stop at true wonders of the native flora and fauna. I hope you have enjoyed with me what I can literally call a high-altitude walk.

I give you this image of a rooster that I also photographed on that occasion; it reminds me of the Cuban painter Mariano Rodríguez who specialized in painting them, always arousing admiration; it also reminds me of Gabo, because the rooster was undoubtedly one of the main characters of his essential novel "No One Writes to the Colonel." See you soon, my dear friends.
