The Mountain Changed Me: A Reflection on Nature and Life [ENG|SPA]

English
Español

My greetings and respect to everyone in the Hive community. What caught my attention powerfully is that after going on an expedition to this marvelous place, San Esteban National Park, I have not been able to stop thinking about it recurrently. This undoubtedly reveals how impactful the experience of this visit was for me.

Without fear of being wrong, I can assure you that being in contact with nature is the most undervalued pleasure, at least for a good part of the Venezuelan population. And the most ironic thing is that many believe that luxuries, belongings, and social gatherings are everything. However, although I respect that way of thinking, I admire those who, like me, enjoy going out to breathe fresh air, to fill themselves with natural energy, and to change environments — which is healthy and highly therapeutic.

I have always found that going to explore mountains, bearing the sun, sweating, and getting tired are another way of experiencing a disconnection from the toxic space that locks you within the four walls of responsibility, rules, the everyday, and the future. As Venezuelans, we have normalized stress as our daily portion. We are so tied to work that even taking a brief breather becomes a task very close to impossible.

I have really come to think: what about those who cannot afford a break from reality? Because it is precisely that reality that allows them to put a loaf of bread on their table. It is just as I was talking with my younger brother a few days ago. I told him: "How difficult it is to make content and live from it in a country that was left in oblivion, that is so technologically behind." But that is where I also analyze the following: "In crises is where opportunities are."

And maybe it's just about taking a moment to stop, breathe deeply, appreciate the whole panorama. If possible, sit down and listen carefully; focus your mind, recharge your energy, meditate, and get up to continue your path. That is how I see it. I don't know if I make myself understood. To be completely honest, I am still processing everything I felt on that mountain.

What I can tell you with certainty is that I did not return from that mountain being the same person. However, I hope this is not the last experience of this type, since there are still wonderful places in the mountain to visit, and I am eager to share it with you as soon as possible. I genuinely hope this reflection resonates in your ears and stays with you, so that it teaches you something important for your lives.

With nothing more to add, I just want to thank you for your time and attention. We will read each other soon in the next publication.
