While looking through some old photographs, I came across a couple that I still have from a few years ago, when my family and I traveled to the city of Puerto Cabello in the state of Carabobo, Venezuela. The main goal was to head to the beach and enjoy some quality family time; however, my eldest daughter—who is a content creator, both here on Hive and on YouTube—wanted to go up to Fortín Solano, a castle located at the top of a mountain. She wanted to capture some footage for her channel, but the climb was quite exhausting, so I didn’t make it all the way to the castle—I only reached the first viewpoint—whereas my daughters managed to get all the way to the top. This colonial-era castle was built to protect both the city of Puerto Cabello and Valencia, as these coasts were frequently visited by pirates, privateers, and buccaneers who would land to besiege and plunder those cities. Consequently, the Spaniards of that time decided to keep watch over the sea from the summit of that mountain, which offers an impressive 360-degree view.
Revisando algunas viejas fotografías di con un par que aún conservo de hace algunos años que mi familia y y viajamos a la ciudad de Puerto Cabello en el estado Carabobo, Venezuela, el objetivo principalmente era ir a la playa a pasarla bien en familia, sin embargo mi hija mayor que es creadora de cntenido no solo aquí en Hive sino en youtube, quiso subir hasta el fortín Solano, un castillo que está en la cima de una montaña, el objetivo era hacer algunas tomas para su canal, pero de verdad que la subida estuvo bastante cansada, así que yo no llegué hasta el castillo sino ahsta el primer mirador, en cambio mis hijas sí que llegaron hasta allí. Este castillo colonial fue construído con el objetivo de brindar protección tanto a la ciudad de Puerto Cabello como a Valencia, ya que en estas costas solían desembarcar muchos piratas, corsarios y filibusteros a asediar y saquear dichas ciudades, por lo tanto los españoles de la época decidieron custodiar el mar desde lo alto de esa montaña, la cuál ofrece una vista impresionante en 360 grados.
And as I mentioned, although I didn’t make it all the way to the castle itself—stopping instead at the first viewpoint—I still thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially the beautiful scenery all around me. I was also surprised to discover that up there on the mountain, just before reaching the castle, there’s an upscale restaurant. It’s truly a place worth visiting, especially if you have a historical guide with you.
Y como les dije, aunque yo no llegué hasta el castillo como tal sino hasta el primer mirador, yo disfruté de todos modos la experiencia, y sobre tdo de esa vista tan hermosa que tenía a mi alrededor. Por cierto que me sorprendió ver que allá arriba en la montaña, justo antes de llegar al castillo hay un restaurante de lujo. Realmente que vale la pena visitar ese lugar, en especial si cuentas con un guía histórico.
