It's always the people with little power that abuses it the most.

As a Nigerian student schooling in Nigeria, I think I can boldly say that the educational system is designed for you to fail and that is why from the day you step foot into that school, till the day you graduate, you never get a moment of peace. But funny enough, today's post has nothing to do with the main part of the education sector (which I believe is the teaching), it has to do with something every Nigerian student never think of until the day they finally get to become a student of whatever institution they choose in the country.

The non-academic staffs.

If there's one thing I would be removing from the educational sector if I do have the power to do so, it will be the non-academic staffs because those people are evil and I mean that in every sense of the word.

I never really got to know how wicked these people (mostly women) can be until I got to experience it firsthand. The first time had been when I accompanied my friends to go do their medicals. The lady in charge of assigning students to the various hospitals they will go to was so rude, that I almost punched her on the face and I wasn't even the one she was being rude to.

After talking to the students like they were trash, she had taken an hour break to eat, asking all of the students to step away from her window (she attends to students from her office window) because she didn't want them poisoning her food, and after she was done eating, she attended to them for about thirty minutes before closing for the day, asking the rest of the students to come back the next day, the time was 2:30pm and most of the students had been there as early as 7:00am while she arrived around 11:00am.

Now this was one experience and though it wasn't a personal experience, it didn't take long for me to experience mine. I will try to summarise the story as I've told it here before in the past.

Basically, during my first semester of my first year in school, I discovered I had some issues with my admission. My name had appeared in two different departments and I had no idea until about three days to my first semester exam. So my brother, his friend and I tried running around to solve this issue only to encounter this very wicked lady.

If I ever had a doubt on what gender the devil was, this lady made me 101% sure that the devil is a lady because she was the devil herself. Every request from us to this woman was turned down, it was almost as if she wanted me to lose my admission and go back home, almost like it gave her joy. I remember cursing her more than once under my breath before eventually leaving her office to go look for help elsewhere. Luckily for me, I was able to get the problem fixed before the commencement of the exam.

Ever since then, whenever I think of that situation, I just wish I had at least done something horrible to that lady, maybe leave a mark on her, so that whenever she sees that mark, she'd remember me and remember how evil she was to me on that day.

Anyways, there you have it. If I'm to take away one thing away from the educational system, it sure would be the non-academic staffs and I would replace them with technology that makes it possible for students to access informations themselves. At this modern age and time, it's still a shock to me that many schools in Nigeria doesn't have those technologies yet, because if we did, a lot of this nonsense won't be happening.
