About an hour ago, I was seated downstairs with some of my neighbors when a man hawking pillows had walked by. One of my neighbors was about to stop him and inquire about the prices of the pillow to know if he could buy some when another neighbor had stopped him, telling him that although the pillow prices might be cheap, they don't last long.
It turned out he had bought some earlier but had to throw it away after not using it for too long. His point was that cheap things don't last; only the expensive ones do. At first I didn't pay any attention to him saying that, but the conversation had moved on to drugs.
Someone was complaining about how expensive malaria drugs were these days, and as he was about to be recommended places where he could get them cheaper, that same neighbor had immediately spoken against it, again saying that cheap things are never a good idea.
But you see, while I might agree with the idea that some cheap things are nothing to write home about, I sincerely do not agree totally that just because something is expensive means it must be good.
As a matter of fact, I think it is very silly to have such a mentality because all it takes now is for the manufacturer of these fake products to get wind of these rumors, and then all of a sudden, not only will you be buying fake products, but you will also be buying them at a very expensive price.
The manufacturer could go ahead and add a few thousand to the prices of their fake goods, and you, with your mentality, would go to the market, hear the price of the original product, but refuse to buy it because the one at the other shop was a lot more expensive than this one, while unbeknownst to you, the one in your hand right now is the original and the other one is the fake one.
