A few years ago, a friend of mine had told me that she was about six months pregnant for her boyfriend at the time. When I asked her what her plans were, unlike some other parts of the world where most women have no problem becoming a baby mama, over here things can be very different.
Most women tend to reduce the shame of getting pregnant out of wedlock by quickly getting married to the men who got them pregnant. So when I asked her that question, I had half expected her to give me that response but was impressed when she said something completely different.
She had told me that she had no plans to rush into marriage because of the circumstances she was in when she clearly knew she wasn't ready yet. She had said she was going to give birth and then take her time to decide if getting married to her baby daddy was the right thing to do.
After about six months of her giving birth, she was more than certain that he wasn't the kind of guy she wanted for a husband and ended things with him.
The reason I remember this story and I'm telling it is because earlier this evening, I was seated outside when a lady walked right past me; she was heavily pregnant and had a little kid walking right next to her.
The reason she caught my attention was because I knew the lady and her husband. They had gotten married a couple of years ago after she got pregnant for him. It was a rushed wedding, one we knew they hadn't planned for. It's been about three years since their wedding, and you can tell that she has had better days, but they were all in the past.
Nowadays, she always looks so unkempt, and her husband doesn't care. All he does is sit at his shop and try to talk to everything that walks around in a skirt while also gambling every chance he gets. Looking at the pregnant lady, it felt like her appearance was screaming for help, but she had no plans of leaving.
I might be wrong, but something tells me that if my friend had agreed to marry her baby daddy, she probably could have easily found herself in the same situation.
