Lately, it has come to my attention that there just might be a thin line between what people perceive as pride and having self-respect. And the reason I say that is was because they've been situation where I've seen someone ask someone else for a favour, and after the person refuses to help grant that favour the first time, they turn to me and tell me that the reason they had said no to that other person is to see if they would come back to ask again.
And this is because to some people, they feel if something is important to you, you will keep on coming back to ask for that thing until you eventually get it. But then again, when the person doesn't come back for the second time, they quickly label them as someone with a lot of pride.
They say it in a bad way, to make you look at that person in a certain kind of way, which is something I do not agree with. I actually do feel like in some cases, it might have less to do with pride and more to do with self-respect, and the reason I say this is that I believe a person who respects himself wouldn't want to put himself in a position where he gets turned down by the same person, on multiple occasions, on the same issue.
So most people would rather ask once, and when they get a no from you, to go find the next best option. That to me isn't a man with pride, or maybe it is, just not in a bad way like people like to portray it. I'd rather see that person as someone with enormous self-respect who knows how to take no for an answer and still keep it pushing.
