The recent full moon which happened on June 11th – the Strawberry Full Moon – felt like a gentle but powerful reminder to slow down, be present, and honor the beauty around and within me. I always mark the new and full moons, as well as the Pagan Sabbats, with my own little rituals that bring me back to myself. I don’t follow any strict rules – just what resonates with me and what my spirit needs in that moment.
P.S. I'm sorry for low quality photos as everything (except the moon) was taken on my old phone - I didn't want to shoot on camera as I wanted to be simply in the moment. ❤️
So I wanted to share how a Full Moon day looks for me and hopefully inspire you to be more conscious of the moon phases which brings us back to living with nature's rhythms.
I started the day slowly, preparing a warm cup of ceremonial cacao from Bali. I always try to make the cacao as intentionally as possible, putting my intentions or prayers with each spoon of cacao into the water or milk. Since I use ceremonial cacao for these special rituals, I mostly like to make it simply with water and maybe just a tiny splash of milk. I don't add any sweeteners to this one and have probably ~15-20 g. cacao for a smallish cup. When I use more cacao, I feel dizzy as it's a strong drink! So if you are more sensitive to caffeine or similar things, start gentle. ❤️
There’s something sacred in that first sip, especially from my handmade, hand-painted clay mug I bought in Morocco. I use it only for moon rituals – it’s part of what makes these days special.
I lit some incense and my homemade sage smudge stick, crafted from the sage growing in my mom’s garden. Sage has been used for centuries in many cultures for purification, protection, and clearing negativity. With the smoke rising, I cleansed the space, preparing the energy around my altar.
My altar is deeply personal. Having an altar is like creating a little sacred corner in your home — a space that reminds you to pause, connect, and return to yourself. It doesn’t have to be fancy or traditional; it’s simply a collection of things that hold meaning for you.
Mine holds crystals, candles, some other nature elements and a little light being sculpture I created when I had some leftover clay. I placed a broken amethyst ring into its center – now it feels like this little creature holds part of me. It always watches over my rituals and is super cute!
While the candles flickered, I played some soft cacao ceremony music. My favorite artist is Mose – his music has become the heartbeat of my cacao rituals. Here is his YouTube channel. It helps me drop into my body, feel safe, feel open. I sipped slowly, moved a little, danced a little. Just however my body wanted.
The full moon is a time of illumination, release, and reflection. It's the perfect moment to check in with your inner world. You can ask yourself: What am I ready to let go of? What is no longer serving me? Write about any heavy thoughts or emotions you’ve been carrying and imagine them being released with the full moon’s light. You might reflect on what has come full circle since the last new moon — what has grown, shifted, or changed? You can also explore forgiveness: Is there someone you need to forgive, or do you need to forgive yourself for something? Sometimes I write letters I’ll never send, just to free the feelings. You can also write a gratitude list, or journal about what feels abundant in your life right now. These are usually the main topics I journal about in additional to other sub-topics relevant for specific month's energy.
After the cacao ritual, I went to the forest. I had just been there the day before, and all the wild strawberries were still green – but to my surprise, this time I found quite a few ripe ones! I felt such deep gratitude. I had brought oats the day before and scattered them for the animals – just as a thank you to the forest, for always showing me birds, squirrels, and its quiet support. Somehow, those strawberries felt like the forest saying thank you back.
I even found a little baby snake – a grass snake or serpent – curled up peacefully near the strawberries!
The forest was vibrant, wet from the morning rain, lush and humming with life. On my walk back, the rain started again – I took shelter under a hazelnut tree, but soon it poured so hard that no tree could protect me. I got completely soaked, but I loved it. I felt like one of the trees, being watered by the rain, not running from it but receiving it with joy.
I saw a woodpecker tapping at a tree and heard other birds singing like a living forest symphony.
After that, my day flowed more normally – some work, reading, and quiet things. But that intentional morning really shaped the energy of my whole day. It made it more mindful, more rooted.
🌕 Some ways to celebrate the Full Moon in summary:
Make a cup of cacao or herbal tea and drink it slowly, with presence.
Light candles or incense, and cleanse your space with sage or other herbs.
Journal about what you’re ready to let go of, or who you want to forgive – including yourself. Make a gratitude list
Dance, move, or do breathwork to release stuck energy.
Spend time in nature, even for a short walk.
Dress in something that makes you feel beautiful or connected.
Read a book that inspires you. I’m currently reading “Braiding Sweetgrass” – a deeply moving book about the relationship between people and the Earth. A must-read if you love nature.
You don’t need anything fancy for a full moon ritual. Just a little time and intention. Mine always includes cacao, my body, my altar – and space to feel. Every ritual looks different, but it always helps me reconnect to myself, to the moon, and to the Earth that holds me.
I am doing moon rituals for over 4 years now so I found what works best for me. So this post is just a reflection and ideas to inspire but you always have to find your own path. ✨
