Sometimes it is nice to leave the camera behind and simply enjoy the moment. Well... almost. I still brought my camera with me, but this time photography was not my main goal.
A few days ago, I spent a wonderful summer evening at the Kalniečiai Park Reading Space, where Harry and his band performed a live concert. Since the band's bass player is my boyfriend, I mostly came to support him and enjoy the music rather than work as a photographer.
There were already other photographers covering the event, so I didn't feel any pressure to document every moment. Instead of constantly looking through the viewfinder, I wanted to sit back, listen to the songs, and experience the atmosphere together with everyone else.
The band plays covers of many well-known songs, mostly in the pop and pop-rock style. It was one of those concerts where almost everyone recognizes at least a few songs and starts singing along. That always creates a special feeling because music brings people together, even if they have never met before.
The concert took place in Kalniečiai Park, which is a perfect place to spend warm summer evenings. The trees, fresh air, people sitting on blankets or benches, children playing nearby, and live music created a peaceful atmosphere. It didn't feel like a big commercial event. Instead, it felt like a community gathering where everyone simply wanted to enjoy a beautiful evening.
Because I wasn't focused on creating a full photo story, I only captured a few portraits of the musicians while they were performing. Most of the photos are close-up shots rather than wide images of the audience or the entire stage.
Photography is something I love, but I also remind myself that I don't always have to document everything. Sometimes the best memories stay with us because we were fully present instead of worrying about finding the perfect angle or waiting for the perfect light.
I still couldn't resist taking a few shots, though. Watching musicians perform is always interesting because every person expresses music differently. Some close their eyes while playing, others smile at the audience, and some become completely focused on their instruments. Those small moments make for my favorite portraits because they feel honest and natural.
Looking through these photos now brings back the relaxed feeling of that evening. The weather was perfect, the music sounded great, and the whole atmosphere was calm and welcoming. Summer concerts in parks have something special that is difficult to recreate indoors.
Even though this is only a small collection of images, I wanted to share them here. They may not tell the complete story of the concert, but they remind me of a really enjoyable evening spent with good music, kind people, and someone important to me performing on stage.
