Unbending rhythms -
news beats that are never off -
is one clue that
we live in illusions
foisted upon us by powers that think they are on high
but they are not.
They exist beneath our feet
and need our bodies to walk above on this lovely earth.

They try,
and often succeed,
to bend the rhythms of nature to their wills,
to shackle us to their reins on time,
to ride us like ponies
because they have no rhythm
or heartbeats
or hooves
of their own

Human heartbeats come and go,
race and slow,
meld with the earth’s very turning.

Wind rustles the skin on our forearms
as our bodies prickle and give warnings
which we ignore
mostly
because we have been told
that our prickles of consciousness are
nothing more than errant thought,
refusals to conform

We struggle to bend our rhythms to those dictated to us
not those of our own choosing

Glory be to those of us who are oppositional!

I sit here mornings and contemplate
the daily prompt
as it relates to the world around me
and sometimes a poem
like this one pops out

felt.buzz has a knack for choosing prompts
that fit nicely into my inner mind’s ramblings.

Marianne used to do that too

It might be me (I?) who does the fitting.
My own rhythms don the words I am given

mornings

on days like this one

This is my entry to mariannewest@mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is no rhythm.

A true five minute freewrite, this one. It was minimally tampered with after the timer went off. Thank you for reading it!
