The day began with a completely drenched morning, the kind where the rain seems relentless. I seized a brief pause in the downpour to squeeze in a quick morning walk, just enough to rack up a few steps and soak in some fresh, if damp, air. Movement, however minimal, felt like a small victory against the gloom. Meanwhile, the demolition of the last staircase of the old flue gas desulfurization plant continued, undeterred by the rain. The wet conditions, oddly enough, served a purpose, keeping the dust at bay as the structure came down. The staircase’s remnants stood like a hand with one finger pointed skyward, a solitary, defiant gesture against the gray sky. The second shot shows the steel monster taking another bite about ten minutes before the wall fell and created that upward pointing finger.
