Hello, everyone.

Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners' featured post. Many people got judged wrongly because of their looks, some because of how they behaved, and some were judged based on where they were from. It hurts when you get judged wrongly; you don't do such, but because of your looks, they draw a conclusion.

People always misjudge me because I find it hard to be myself around people. Before I am free around a person, I just know we are very close, possibly a childhood friend, and this makes people draw conclusions about me. Some say I am too proud, and some say I snub a lot. As time went on, I got used to being misjudged.

I talk a lot, and we can do crazy stuff together, but it takes a whole lot of time before I can be that open to someone. I am not an open book, and some people just judge from the cover page (first impression). Sometimes it breaks my heart to hear how someone who doesn't know a thing about me actually describes me.

Even here in school, just a few people know me while the others have concluded I am antisocial and don't like to relate with people; I enjoy my own space; I don't like trouble; and the only way to stay out of trouble is by keeping a very small circle.

The only time I was misjudged and it really broke my heart was in 2019. I needed a job badly because of how hard things were at home. I applied at different companies nearby; I even made inquiries at some supermarkets to know if they needed any salespeople. I really needed to get a job, but can I care for certain things on my own?

A cocoa-producing company sent me an email requesting an interview before they can offer a job. I put my file together and everything I was going to need for the interview. On reaching the venue, we were three that came for the interview and the company needed just two, so automatically one person was to drop out.

With how prepared I was, and by God's grace, I believed it wouldn't be me. I was the second person to be interviewed, and upon entering the room, the first question I was asked was "if I am a smoker." "How can a boy of my age be smoking," I said in my mind. I told the man I don't smoke, and he asked how my lips got so dark if I don't smoke. I was still trying to defend myself when the panel started talking about how they employ only decent workers to avoid complications with work later on.

I talked all I could, but these men were not convinced that I don't smoke. We proceeded with the interview, but clearly, they still see me as a smoker. I gave the interview my best, but I was still feeling sad because I don't see these men giving me the job because they have concluded already.

At the end of the day, I was not offered the job because they concluded I was a smoker. I was so close to getting the job, but I was stereotyped as a smoker. It hurt my heart, but life goes on.
