Hello, everyone.
I welcome my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learner's featured post. Taxes are of great importance to every country because the functionality of that country totally depends on the taxes collected. This means that without taxes the country will not function properly, and when a country fails to function properly, it is the masses that suffer the most. When a country fails to function as it should, everyone suffers, no doubt, but the masses feel the heat more than those in power and the rich, which makes the collection and proper use of taxes very important.
The importance of taxes cannot be overemphasized; without taxes, the needs of the people cannot be met. The basic amenities that the government provides for the people are, as a result of the taxes being paid, the roads, the water provision, even the medical health care, and so many other things that the people get are as a result of the taxes they pay. Tax paying is like scratching the back of the government, and then the government makes these provisions to scratch the back of the people in return. When one fails the other, there is always a problem.
I went to a chemist the other day and met the owner sitting outside with a paper at the entrance that says "sealed by the government for noncompliance on taxes." As much as I felt for the man and the fact that the chemist is the source of his livelihood, he is expected to pay tax whether the income generated there is big or small; it is expected that you pay tax. Even women who sit by the roadside to sell little things, I once saw them get harassed by thugs because they refused to pay tax, so this shows that tax paying is the duty of every citizen and not meant only for a group of people.
As long as you are generating some level of income or revenue from the country somehow, it is expected that you pay tax; whether that income is big enough or not, some of it has to go back to the country that gave you the opportunity to be making the little that you are making with no questions asked. Some businesses are not even strong enough to pay taxes, yet they somehow still manage to do it like the women I talked about before, with just a few things on their table, yet they were forced to pay taxes, and they did in the end.
Now places of worship are exempted from tax paying because they were meant for just worship, and then everyone gives the little they can give. Not much revenue was fine rced out of the hands of worshippers, but trust me, things have changed. Today the places of worship are the places that generate the highest amount of money, even way more than some companies, and yet they don't pay taxes while people earning and making way less than they are making are paying taxes, and then they still somehow enjoy the infrastructure that these taxes provide.
For me things have changed and are no longer like they used to be; revenue is now being generated in places of worship, and they should also pay taxes and not take all the revenue generated for themselves. This person in charge should also have some conscience and suggest this themselves because many of them are enjoying the revenues from taxes like electricity and even roads, but they still keep all the revenue generated to themselves and for themselves. Since places of worship have been turned into a revenue-generating arena, they should also pay taxes like every other company too.
