Hello Folks!

I have just moved in to Townsville- another city in Australia and, yes, as usual, I am tired and sleepy. But, I simply cannot wait any longer to express my opinions on the upcoming hard fork.

For starters, what is a hard fork?

A hard fork (or sometimes hardfork), as it relates to blockchain technology, is a radical change to the protocol that makes previously invalid blocks/transactions valid (or vice-versa). This requires all nodes or users to upgrade to the latest version of the protocol software. Put differently, a hard fork is a permanent divergence from the previous version of the blockchain, and nodes running previous versions will no longer be accepted by the newest version. This essentially creates a fork in the blockchain: one path follows the new, upgraded blockchain, and the other path continues along the old path. Generally, after a short period of time, those on the old chain will realize that their version of the blockchain is outdated or irrelevant and quickly upgrade to the latest version.

I find it necessary to define that because I am not really from the cryptocurrency world and, as far as computer programming/ software/ whatever computer related thing there is, I have zero background. All I know is that, I love to write and steemit rewards me with cryptocurrency so, here I am! But the thing is, since I am blogging on a blockchain based social media network, I do need to at least have a basic understanding on technical things that happen every now and then. I am not aiming on expert level folks but, at least on an ordinary human level only.

I have been hearing a lot of opinions- both positive and negative on the upcoming hardforks and honestly, I just want to sit on the fence right now because both sides do have their strong reasons and evidences to back them up. I wanted to go on the I-DON'T CARE WHAT YOU DO mode but, I am a part of the community. Rather than complaining over when I get to feel its effect, I think that I should speak up now.

But the problem is that, I cannot really generally speak about the whole thing without getting confused so, here I am doing a "bite sized" version of the hardfork. The first thing that really hit me was the Proposed Economic Improvement Proposal which was presented by trafalgar@trafalgar.

https://steemit.com/steem/@trafalgar/eip-faq- this is the link folks.

I am not going to discuss the technical side because even now, I am still grappling with it. But this is my understanding:

  • I find it unfair that the people who upvoted my posts will get 50% share amongst themselves on my posts but then, I also felt glad because, I could also get the same share when I upvote anyone else's posts.

  • But then, solving the content indifference ( where people will pay bid bots to upvote their posts) is also a great idea. I mean, although I am falling asleep in front of my laptop these days, I still comprehend that sometimes, people will post whatever without even putting a lot of efforts on their posts. Not that my contents are high quality but at least I make an effort to post a picture with at least a discernible "story" behind it.

  • Another thing that I appreciate:

Because every measure has negative side effects that increase as you turn up the dial. By using multiple measures which compliment each other, we can effectively minimize negative side effects while hopefully still overhaul the status quo voting behavior into one that generally reflects honest opinions on content.

So let the hard fork begin and hopefully, all will be all right. If you guys have anything to say about it, please leave a comment because, I do want to be more knowledgeable and educated on the upcoming hard fork!
