This is the second part of the car thing I was making lately. The inspiration of this is the kids who get to have their own homemade cars out of boxes and decorate them as they pleased. I personally was not able to experience this but I saw a lot on tv to know exactly how its made.
Here is my own version:
I started by using my mould to create the biscuit effect. I would have sculpted the whole thing but it would take longer to do that. Besides, if I am making a lot of this, I do not really want to waste my time on just one task.
Then I started shaping the car. I would like to make it as amateurish as possible because the ones I saw on TV were basically just a rectangle box/ cardboard.
Here is how it looks like.
Then I used the small cookie mould to make the wheels and the steering wheel.
Then I started making the rider's details.
And I came up with something that looks like this. This is the prebaked figurine.
Post bake looks. Again when I took them out of the oven, I thought they were not properly baked because there was minimal shrinkage in color and, they are not audible enough.
Okay, most of my baked figurines has to pass my "audible test." When I drop them( about 3-5 inches on top of my oven) they have to make this bell like sound. Not a dense or heavy sound. if they have a dense or heavy sound, the insides of the clay is not yet fully baked. I usually just bake it again in a lower temperature- around 90-100 degrees celsius just to make sure that they are properly baked and, they will not get burnt.
My white/ light coloured clay will usually start discoloring a few minutes before it gets burnt/ overbake. So, as a rule of thumb- I do not bake my clay higher than 130 degrees or as per manufacturer's instructions. Also, I just allow my clay to cool inside the oven. For practical and safety reasons.
