Simple snacks are always a new adventure to try—for some reason, it never occurred to me before to make tempeh-based cookies. I usually prepare tempeh as a savory dish, but this time it’s very different—a sweet treat that’s quite unusual to me.
As a tempeh lover, a dish like this is certainly new to me and has never been on my menu. But curiosity always gets the better of me whenever I see it on my social media feed. I don’t think there’s any harm in giving it a try, right?.
Chocolate tempeh cookies are a combination of tempeh processed into cookies with chocolate. This coffee-time snack is indeed sweet and has a very authentic flavor—I’m sure you’ll love it once you’ve successfully made these cookies to enjoy while relaxing.
The process is very easy—just mix the ingredients by hand without a mixer and bake them. You’ll definitely succeed in making these special and incredibly delicious tempeh cookies.
50 grams of tempeh
150 grams of all-purpose flour
120 grams of powdered sugar
1 tablespoon of cocoa powder
1 egg yolk
60 grams of butter
Grate the tempeh with a cheese grater. Here, I recommend using fresh tempeh so the results are tastier.
Mix the flour, powdered sugar and cocoa powder, then add the grated tempeh and mix everything together.
Add the egg yolks then add the butter.
Knead the dough until it can be shaped and does not stick to your hands.
Form the dough into balls the size of marbles, then arrange them on a baking sheet that has been greased with margarine. Press with a spoon and fork to form a pattern. You can also shape it however you like.
Then, bake in the oven at 150 degrees Celsius for approximately 60 minutes, or adjust according to your oven's temperature. Ensure the cookies are cooked thoroughly.
It feels so great when the cookies start to give off a wonderful aroma in the oven, especially when they’re done baking—I immediately rush to take them out. Without a second thought, I tried one cookie right away, and wow, it exceeded my expectations. The taste is amazing—just like regular peanut cookies. There’s no overpowering tempeh smell; instead, the cookies have a wonderful aroma and taste absolutely delicious.
The texture was just right—crispy but not hard—and I really loved the combination of flavors. Sweet and savory with the perfect texture, and the chocolate flavor really came through even though I only added a little bit of chocolate.
So, for those of you who’ve never tried tempeh cookies, give these a try—I highly recommend them because they’re truly that delicious to enjoy while relaxing.
