Good morning, wonderful community! I’m back again. Today I wanted to talk about a problem affecting so many of us: the heat. It is undeniable that climate change is happening; here in Italy, a heatwave is forecast for this week with peaks of 40°C—a real inferno, with excessive, unbearable heat. Everyone suffers in the heat, but women feel it more—partly due to hormonal factors and partly because it is harder to cope during menstruation and menopause, which are already challenging times. Furthermore, women tend to have lower blood pressure, which can lead to extreme fatigue, dizziness, and fainting. Unfortunately, the heat can be a real enemy, and this is certainly not normal heat; our cities are under "red code" or weather alerts almost daily. The heat increases feelings of fatigue and exhaustion, partly because sleep is poor and frequently interrupted. Even if you are lucky enough to have air conditioning or a fan, you still don't sleep well; cold drafts can leave you waking up with aching bones, a sore throat, or a cough. I personally feel completely wiped out and full of aches and pains. It seems almost impossible to find relief, especially during the hottest hours of the day—you sweat even when standing still! This heat brings many issues; many people lose their appetite and lack the energy or desire to cook, since standing by the stove makes you even hotter. I’ve been preparing quick, cold meals lately because even cooking and doing housework feels like a huge struggle!

This summer feels like a test of survival; we are all looking forward to September. In the meantime, there are various tricks and remedies—both traditional and expert-recommended—to beat the heat: avoid going out during the hottest hours, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, take short, frequent showers, and steer clear of prolonged physical exertion. If you do go outside, try to keep your head covered to prevent sunstroke or feeling faint. Folk remedies include soaking your feet in a bowl of cold water or frequently wetting your forehead and wrists with cold water; if the heat becomes unbearable, some people use ice packs or portable fans. Then, of course, there is the matter of food: in this heat, it is best to avoid heavy meals and instead eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Honestly, I hope autumn arrives soon, because this unusual heat is truly miserable for everyone—animals included!
