(Official entry to the #foodphotography contest marked below).
This is a nationwide campaign to increase awareness on the importance of proper nutrition among Filipinos, especially school children.
At the crack of dawn on Friday, July 27th, the whole family woke up early and prepared our share for the potluck/boodle fight. I cooked adobo, a classic Filipino dish which is easy and instinctive to cook so it's hard to get it wrong. The key is the balance between salt and vinegar. Plus, the tastier you can make it, the better.
Before heading to the gym, the room was filled with parents attending to their kids. We dressed them up with purple chef hats and aprons as agreed upon. Many became anxious when it started raining harder and some didn't get their uniforms on time.
The walk to the gym at past seven was, yeah, a little wet but it didn't stop anyone.
The program began as soon as all the children lined up.
They performed a series of cheering dance numbers led by the teachers.
I admired the kids' endurance and the teachers' dedication to guide them in delivering organized performances.
It was followed by the awarding ceremony. Various awards, including "Best in Vegetable Eating", "Best Dance Number", and "Best in Poster-Making" were given.
Perhaps the strongest message imparted by the hosts and guest speakers was that nutritious foods must not only be worn as costumes but the real thing must be eaten and enjoyed as well.
Above is my official entry to the #foodphotography contest.
All-in-all, the program was a huge success!
At the end of the day, it's still a celebration. We all enjoyed delicious Filipino foods and didn't mind some kids eating doughnuts and junk food. How about eating some junk food ONLY in July and eating healthy foods for the rest of the year? Do you think it's a good idea? Haha!
We hope you enjoy our 2nd #ULOG post.
