It was a sunny day the other day when we went out for lunch. It was my birthday and I was treated by my husband to a steakhouse in the former district we used to live in. He made reservation and we went early so as not to go to an overcrowded restaurant. This is the XXL Leopoldauer Alm as the locals call it. Here you can order a triple X menu and eat all you can, otherwise, you would have to bring home the rest because they serve huge portions even for just a single person.
The restaurant just opened 2 days before after almost 8 months shutdown due to the pandemic. It was obligatory to show our vaccination pass otherwise, we won´t be able to sit down and dine inside. Good that we had our vaccination already.
We ordered a plate of various meat and sausages for 2 persons and a huge portion of the spare ribs. The waiter warned us that we won´t be able to eat all. We knew our purpose of ordering the quantity. The point is I do not want to cook the next 2 days because of so many things to do in the flat. So we politely said to the waiter that it´s ok and that we always come to the restaurant and knew how big the portions served.
And the meat included in the plate for 2 persons are the grilled Frankfurter, 2 spare ribs, 2 grilled porkchops, 2 chicken Schnitzel, 2 pork Schnitzel with enough French fries, rice, sweet onion rings, butter with herbs and various dips.
The Two-person Plate they listed in the menu is way for 4 people, Lol. But I had my reason for ordering such. Then came the Spare Ribs that we didn´t touch because it was meant for bringing home.
All of the meat have been delish, soft inside but crispy on the outside. The salad had been good with the yogurt dressing. All taste good that ís why we love this Restaurant.
For dessert, I ordered an apricot filled ice cream shaped into a ball and coated with sweet buttered bread crumbs with whipping cream. And my husband had that warm chocolate cake topped with vanilla ice cream and whipping cream. All scrumptious!
The interior had been decorated the Alpen style, with all those decors that came from various farms and some are original pieces as such. They really made it so authentic as if you are in a restaurant in the Alps region in Austria. Even the outfit of the waiters and waitresses are authentic in folkloric style. The men in leather shorts with checkered shirts and the waitresses in "Dirndl" dress.
Inside, the restaurant is divided into different rooms, 2 huge hallrooms , garden dining area, and many enclosed - like rooms who would like to have a more private dining with friends or family.
This restaurant had a humble beginning as a bikers´ hangout or a stop-diner for truckers. The owner himself is an avid biker and belongs to a clique of motor bikers in the likes of Harley Davidson, etc. It was very small diner until they started renovating and became bigger and bigger. Got some decors from flea markets all around the country as well as vintage furniture and decorative items from farms.
It now turned into a huge family business and became so popular that the politicians of the country dined here. The restaurant is an insider tip, so if you happen to be in the city of Vienna, try this out and you´ll have a good experience dining here. It can be reached with the Underground U1.
