Dear Hive Friends!
Liebe Hive Freunde!
We were on our way to Hallstatt, Austria, when we decided to make a short stop in the picturesque lakeside town of Gmunden. And what a beautiful decision that turned out to be!
The moment we arrived, I immediately felt as if I had stepped into a postcard.
The magnificent Traunsee, with its deep blue-green waters surrounded by majestic Alpine mountains, instantly caught my attention. The scenery was simply breathtaking.
Schloss Ort – Gmunden's Iconic Landmark
Our main reason for stopping in Gmunden was to see one of its most famous landmarks, Schloss Ort. This historic castle stands on a tiny island in the Traunsee and is connected to the mainland by a charming wooden bridge.
The setting is almost magical. With the lake surrounding the little island and the mountains rising in the background, it is easy to understand why Schloss Ort has become one of the most photographed sights in Gmunden.
The castle may also look familiar to German-speaking television viewers. It was the filming location of the popular Austrian TV series “Schlosshotel Orth,” which was broadcast in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
I particularly love the hazy mountain scenery. On days when the mountains are partly hidden by mist, only the silhouettes of the peaks are visible. Somehow, this makes the landscape even more fascinating and mysterious.
Gmundner Keramik
Gmunden is also known for its Ceramic wares because all of its designs are hand-painted.
Tourists who visit its site can paint their own plates or mugs and can take them home.
For those who have more time, Gmunden is a wonderful place to explore on foot. You can take a leisurely walk along the lakeside, enjoy the views, and simply breathe in the fresh Alpine air.
And if walking isn't quite your thing, you can always take to the water. Renting a boat would be a lovely way to experience the deep green-blue waters of Traunsee while enjoying the surrounding mountains from a different perspective.
Unfortunately, our visit was only a short stopover. But even though our time in Gmunden was brief, the beautiful Traunsee, the charming Schloss Ort and the dramatic Alpine landscape left a lasting impression on me.
Gmunden was definitely a little Alpine experience worth remembering. ❤️
Zusammenfassung auf Deutsch
Gmunden – Ein malerischer Zwischenstopp
Schloss Ort – Gmundens Wahrzeichen
