My Wednesday Walk - October 21, 2026
Dear Hive Friends!
Sometimes, a familiar place can bring back a flood of memories, especially when it holds a special place in our hearts. This was exactly what happened when I revisited an area where we used to walk our dogs many years ago.
The place is not far from our former home, where we lived for about 25 years, near the Marchfeld Kanal. Situated on the outskirts of Vienna, close to the border with Lower Austria, the area is surrounded by vast open fields and beautiful walking paths.
I attended the burial ceremony of my friend’s mother, who passed away at the end of September this year. As the cemetery happened to be close to our former home, I decided to take a little detour after the ceremony and explore the neighbourhood. Little did I know that this spontaneous visit would bring back so many wonderful memories.
Visiting The Marchfeld Kanal Area
Our beloved Rottweiler, Ako, and Chihuahua princess Lily absolutely loved this place! We often walked them along the dirt tracks beside the fenced paddocks, where horses could be seen enjoying the sunshine. Sometimes, we would simply pause and watch them, appreciating the peaceful surroundings while they happily explored the paths.
As I wandered around, I noticed how much the area had changed over the years. A playground had been added near the man-made lake, along with a sandy area for visitors who prefer to relax by the water rather than swim. The lake itself was once a stone quarry before it was transformed into a popular swimming spot for local residents.
Despite these changes, the place still held a familiar charm. The autumn season was beginning to show its colours, with leaves gradually turning shades of yellow, orange, and brown as the colder days approached. The landscape seemed quieter, inviting me to slow down, take in the surroundings, and reminisce.
Walking there again reminded me of the simple pleasures we once enjoyed with Ako and Lily.. Those were precious moments of companionship, fresh air, and peaceful walks that I will always treasure.
As I left the area, I carried those beautiful memories with me. Places may change with time, and life may take us in different directions, but the memories we create there remain in our hearts.
Sometimes, all it takes is a familiar path to bring us back to the happiest moments of our lives. ❤️

Liebe Hive Freunde!
Nach der Beerdigung der Mutter einer Freundin nutzte ich die Gelegenheit, einen Ort in der Nähe unseres früheren Zuhauses zu besuchen, wo wir etwa 25 Jahre lang in der Nähe des Marchfeldkanals gelebt hatten. Dort gingen wir früher oft mit unserem geliebten Rottweiler Ako spazieren. Besonders gerne liefen wir auf den Feldwegen entlang der Pferdekoppeln und genossen die Ruhe und die Natur.
Inzwischen hat sich einiges verändert. Neben dem ehemaligen Steinbruch, der heute als Badesee genutzt wird, gibt es nun auch einen Spielplatz und einen Sandbereich zum Entspannen. Die herbstlichen Farben kündigten bereits die kältere Jahreszeit an.
Während meines Spaziergangs kamen viele schöne Erinnerungen an unsere gemeinsame Zeit mit Ako zurück. Es war ein bewegender Besuch, der mir wieder einmal zeigte, wie sehr vertraute Orte mit unseren schönsten Erinnerungen verbunden sind.
Manchmal genügt ein vertrauter Weg, um längst vergangene, glückliche Momente wieder lebendig werden zu lassen.
