Sublime Sunday - Sept.27, 2026
Good evening, everyone!
I am glad I was finally able to take a little break from household chores. I have been quite busy these past few days because I am expecting visitors from Munich and London. They are sisters, and both work as registered nurses. I wanted to make sure my flat was comfortable and welcoming for them, so I had quite a few things to prepare.´
One thing I had been meaning to do for a long time was rearrange my furniture. In fact, I probably should have done it when I moved into this smaller flat six years ago. Somehow, I kept postponing it. After my husband passed away in 2022, there were simply more important things to deal with, both here in Vienna and in Spain. Now that everything has finally been settled, I feel that I can breathe again and start thinking more about how I want to spend my time alone as a retiree.
I have a quiet and simple lifestyle, but that doesn't mean I am bored. I am active on a cultural and social platform where I meet new people and make new friends. I enjoy joining different activities there, including sports, dining, and cultural events. It has been a nice way to stay active, meet people, and add a little variety to my everyday life.
I also love cooking, any food I could think of like this chicken I pre-roasted today made me have more time for other chores in the next days.

I am also still tending to my container plants on the balcony. My eggplant, which produced only one fruit, has finally been harvested and cooked. Some of the tomatoes have already been picked, while others are still hanging on the plants, waiting to ripen. I honestly didn't expect them to produce much because I planted them rather late in the season. Still, nature had other plans! They grew and produced fruit, and now I am expecting to harvest the remaining tomatoes in the next few days.
And then… the sunset!🌅 A little while ago, I stepped onto my balcony to check on the plants, and I was suddenly greeted by a spectacular sunset. Of course, I immediately grabbed my phone and started taking pictures.
📱 It reminded me of the sunsets I used to enjoy in Spain. When I was living there, we had an incredible 360-degree view from the top of the mountain, so beautiful sunsets were almost an everyday experience.
Here in Vienna, I don't often get to see nature quite like that. Perhaps that is why this particular sunset caught my attention so much. It appeared unexpectedly, right in the middle of an ordinary evening. Sometimes, the most beautiful moments are the ones we don't plan for. It was a beautiful reminder that even in a quiet and simple life, there are still little surprises waiting for us.
And that sunset certainly made my evening beautiful. ❤️🌅
Zusammenfassung auf Deutsch
Ein schöner Abend auf dem Balkon.
In den letzten Tagen war ich ziemlich beschäftigt, denn ich bekomme Besuch von zwei Schwestern aus München und London. Beide arbeiten als diplomierte Krankenschwestern. Ich wollte meine Wohnung gemütlich für sie vorbereiten und habe dabei auch gleich einige Möbel umgestellt – etwas, das ich eigentlich schon vor sechs Jahren hätte machen sollen.
Nach dem Tod meines Mannes im Jahr 2022 gab es einfach wichtigere Dinge zu erledigen, hier in Wien und auch in Spanien. Jetzt ist endlich alles geregelt, und ich kann wieder etwas mehr an mich selbst denken und mein Leben im Ruhestand genießen. Ich habe ein ruhiges Leben, aber mir wird nicht langweilig. Über eine Kultur- und Freizeitplattform treffe ich neue Leute, gehe essen, mache Sport und besuche verschiedene Veranstaltungen.
Ich koche auch sehr gerne, und heute habe ich dieses Hänschen vorgebraten.
Auch meine kleinen Balkonpflanzen gedeihen noch erstaunlich gut. Die einzige Aubergine ist bereits geerntet und gekocht, einige Tomaten habe ich ebenfalls schon gepflückt. Obwohl ich sie spät gepflanzt habe, tragen sie immer noch Früchte. 🍅🌱
Und dann, als ich gerade nach meinen Pflanzen sehen wollte, entdeckte ich einen wunderschönen Sonnenuntergang. Natürlich musste ich sofort mein Handy holen und ein paar Fotos machen.>
Solche Sonnenuntergänge erinnern mich an Spanien, wo wir oben auf dem Berg einen herrlichen 360°-Blick hatten. In Wien sehe ich solche Naturschauspiele nicht so oft. Manchmal braucht es gar nichts Besonderes – nur einen ruhigen Moment auf dem Balkon und einen wunderschönen Himmel. Und plötzlich ist der ganze Abend ein bisschen schöner.❤️
