First off, you all will agree with me that there are some clothes that can be indecent. This is not even about religion, even society itself frowns at some more of dressing, not to talk of our own conscience too. There are some clothes we put on and been our conscience itself would have issues with it.
And if there's nothing like indecent dressings, then there won't be a need for words like "provocative dressing," "inappropriate clothes," and the like. The truth is just that the way we dress matters, and you know the saying that says, "You will be addressed the way you're dressed." So why do we pretend as if the way we dress does not matter.
Some weeks ago, I went to get stuff in the market when I saw a lady being dragged. Not as if they were dragging her on the floor, nah, but everyone, including mothers, ladies, guys, and all, was shouting at her and kind of embarrassing her with the way she was dressed. You know, I just felt bad for her as I watched from a distance. And in all honesty, what she put on to the market was bad. The dress happens to be a very long and tight-fitting one; I don't have issues with that. What I had issues with too was how it had different large holes at different parts, thereby revealing areas that are normally expected to be covered. The worst part was she had no underwear on.
If not for the help of some of the elderly ones in the market, the thugs there would have stripped her naked. They claimed that is exactly what she wanted; if not, she wouldn't have come to a place like this dressed like that. And I need to add that it wasn't just males who were dragging her; most of those who were bad-mouthing her with words and recording her were females.
Now, here's why I think. Not as if it's good to dress indecently, but we don't usually have to go to the extent of harassing, embarrassing, and assaulting a person all in the name of trying to correct them and all.
And we also need to understand that how we dress can very well influence the way others see and look at us. And like the prompt said too, children get affected by these things too, which they ought not to. Why blame, punish, harass, or embarrass children for an adult's lack of self-control or harmful intentions?
In conclusion, the way we dress matters. Our choices of clothes, what we put on, and the like affect how people perceive us. But then, the responsibility of whatever bad behavior remains with the individual who chooses to behave badly. This is a very wide topic to talk about, but I believe we can just do it and talk about it without turning it into an excuse for indecency. I mean, we should as well realize that the way we approach it can as well be indecent.
